Lovie Smith has $4M allocated for hiring assistant coaches and coordinators. That puts Illinois behind only Ohio State and Michigan in assistant salaries in the Big Ten. Hmmm. Lovie will get paid $2M to start and it will escalate to $5M after five years.

I guess Illinois can thank that NFL team from which Lovie got fired for freeing up that extra 3 million. Love's 2 million from Illinois will just be credited against what he was entitled to anyway under the buy out. Question how much money will continue to be available for the assistants once Lovie is getting 5 million from his new employer if the new guys in town don't bring in the extra revenue/donations that probably is being projected.
