Remember how we won 10 games a few years ago with a QB who was playing his first season? He was a 4* prospect, but had not played a lot of quarterback in high school even. Yet we won 10 games with a defense that is pretty similar to what we can expect in 2018.

Smith has been in the system for two years. TJ Green has been mentored for years by his NFL dad. Andrew Marty is big and talented, and has two first names. Someone will emerge, or CT will be ready enough to take significant snaps.

We don’t need no stinkin rental QB.

Thorson was pretty bad his freshman year. It was a historically good defense and Justin Jackson that delivered those 10 wins for the most part.

Unfortunately there is little chance that any of those three can produce anywhere close to what a 5th year senior Thorson could. With that said McCall and Fitz have the entire offseason to get the next guy ready.

Yeah some guy named Baker Mayfield once upon a time was a walk on. Im not overly worried to think we need to find someone outside the program to run our offense. I am rooting for Marty though, I like his skill set. But I'm confident the coaching staff will identify who the best option is for us.

BUT, we love our QB's who don't play or we don't have.

Or Clayton comes back in time and is ready.

Yes they do. Think that rental worked out pretty good for Wisky. You do realize that they will only have 3 schlorship QB's on the roster and one is true freshman, right? Indiana just signed a 5th year 300 Ib. O lineman from Oklahoma(?).

So the next Russell Wilson is out there waiting to be found? And what does a spare lineman at IU have to do with our QB situation?

You are not arguing Willy. You are free associating.

Why would it hurt to just try and see if it does work with a transfer qb?? We have an extra scholarship- so use it for the most important position on the team! Wis didn't know for sure that RW would be so ausome- but they tried and it worked out. If not, he would be the second/third stringer and we would have more depth on the team in case of an injury like happens almost ever year?

maybe there could be a Wilson clone out there and if not then you add depth to QB position. The IU lineman is from a top Power 5 school and is a 5th year transfer, who is projected to start. Guess it has just nothing to do with NU possibly taking a Grad transfer. Oh well.

Russell Wilson was a multiple-time all-ACC guy who led the conference in passing his junior year. Don't recall all the exact details, but he transferred primarily because he didn't see eye-to-eye with head coach Tom O'Brien regarding his time spent playing baseball both for NC State (drafted out of high school by the Orioles and offered a $350M signing bonus, but elected college) and professionally (upon being drafted in the 4th round by the Rockies and playing for low-ball affiliates for a couple summers) and O'Brien's inclination to push Mike Glennon into the starting role.

So Wisconsin had a pretty good idea that an all-conference level player would be pretty good.

If there's a three-year starter with three all-conference accolades that wants to come to NU, then I'm all for it.

Show me a three-year starter with three all-conference mentions that would be available as a grad transfer and I'll be sold on the idea.

Only concern is that we have to play Purdue first game of the season rather than typical preseason fodder used to get ready for BIG season

Fitz tends to schedule a worthy opponent for Game 1. Recent years have seen WMU (in a year they went 13-1), Stanford, Cal, Syracuse, BC and Vandy. I think he likes his chances when he has a summer to prepare, and his teams seem to be focused on the job at hand.

Trey Klock. Been there, done that.

Smith was the 28th ranked pro style qb. He’s been in system for 2 years. If he’s the starter he’ll be just fine. Tj green was groomed by his dad (nfl) qb. He’ll be fine if he’s starter. Marty kinda wild card. Not as highly ranked as smith. But big arm. 3rd ranked qb in Ohio. So I’m sure he’ll be fine also. Have faith young grasshopper all 3 were real good high school qbs

if part of his problems with O'Brien were because he wanted to play baseball, then why did he choose a school that didn't field a baseball team?

Sure but none of them will be as fine as a healthy Thorson.

Is it possible that we may never see CThor play for the Cats again? If it takes him 12 months to recover/or has any setbacks, wouldn't he just declare for the draft and hope for the best? Or get married to his girlfriend and get a good job with his NU degree/s like us, have some kids and be happy-ever-after??

Wouldn’t that be wonderful for him.

No.

Because he had already told the Rockies he was going to pursue an NFL career after the 2011 season (his junior year), but there was remaining bad blood between him and O’Brien.

Google is your friend. It will help you look less dumb.

You seem to like throwing the dumb word around. Maybe it's just that you understand it well but didn't your mother tell you that's it's not nice calling people names?

No it won't

No one on this board knows this, and which of ct’s Stats is not achievable by these guys. Sure ct has nfl qualities but his stats are pretty pedestrian

Trevor Siemian says "hello!"

Seriously though... NFL talent evaluators look at hours upon hours of tape with only a cursory glance at statistics.

arguably, the next Russell Wilson would not be waiting to be found. He finds you. We'd have to luck into getting an All-Conference QB who decided to drop his team for another one.
