I think it's all speculation at this point but Collins could be tempted now that his kids are all settled and the Collins family has an empty nest. I'm a little worried with all the openings out there. But would Brian James follow him? That might be the key to having CCC stay.
If Collins was super savvy, then perhaps this is a well placed advert to remind folks that he's doing a heckuva coaching job. However, I just see it more as Andy Katz hyping him up, as I'm sure there's deep affinity there as well. Agreed with Cataria - this is just speculation, but if you're Collins agent - it's not bad to have out there.
He's being mentioned as one of the prospective candidates on a long list for the IU job. I'm sure there will be more. When does his current deal expire?
He is a Chicago area and suburbs guy. Going to Bloomington might be a hard bridge to cross

A move by collins would be pretty devastating. He had a long term deal I believe, but maybe it would be wise to consider sweetening it a little bit.
Collins would only leave for Duke, in terms of college jobs. Not too worried. If we make the NCAAT next year again he will get another extension.
There are no certainties in life, but I am 100% certain that Chris Collins will not be the next coach at Indiana. There are a million reasons for this, but the first is that I don't think Collins has much interest in that job.
If 2028, wouldn't it be best to extend him now for recruiting purposes?
The messaging in the Katz clip was most certainly planted by an agent or PR firm. Why wouldn’t Collins want to extend more years?

The timing of Katz’ comments is so strange. They’d make so much more sense if they were from last year.
Next year is going to be tough, We will have to be productive in the portal. Especially need a BIG because I just don't see Hunger as being the guy to be the anchor. Plus even if KJ and Clayton are able to man the point, still need another wing since we are losing both Barhizer and Berry. AC might be a guy to hold down one of the positions and Mullins can help but still need at least one more

Didn't he just land his best recruiting class ever? Who does that and leaves the program? It is however a chance for him to flex his success and recruiting muscles and get a better package for himself and his staff.

Absolutely. Fans have short memories instead of looking at big pictures. I remember being at a game in 2022-23 where one annoying fan was just repeatedly screaming “fire collins”….the same season the cats made it to the field of 32. id love for that guy to reveal himself now. If you’re ever gonna extend a guy to 2035, this is the guy.
Arguably this year is one of his better coaching efforts, and the culture is strong. I'd extend Collins another 4 years ('32?), if anything to allow him to keep building on the recruiting momentum.

We lost at Washington in large part because Collins went with Clayton over Windham, then got himself expelled in the first half.
We blew that game against Nebraska in large part because Hoiberg made adjustments and we didn't.
Win those two games and we're 7-9 in the conference, 16-11 and still alive for the NCAA tournament.

This team lost two of its top three players who happen to be both of its primary ball handlers. Barnhizer, a do-it-all player who filled multiple roles, was a huge loss. He was not only the team’s best defender but also a key figure in the identity of this team, reflecting the culture Collins has built at NU. Leach, who had been making significant strides before his injury, had figured out his press issues and was lethal in the half-court. Losing both players significantly changed the team’s dynamic.
Now, you’re starting a sophomore who was supposed to redshirt and playing two true freshmen who are still developing. Despite these challenges, the team continues to play hard and keep games close against strong opponents. In my opinion, that’s a fantastic coaching job. Navigating an offseason where 60% of your starting lineup couldn’t play, then getting Leach to adapt to Big Ten basketball and a true point guard role, only to lose your key facilitators and team leader, yet still remaining competitive and winning games with the Big Ten's leading scorer, is an incredible achievement.

Yeah this is a “don’t let perfect be the opposite of good” situation. Just because Collins may have had a few bad games doesn’t mean he hasn’t done a great job overall this year.
I mean a tournament every couple of years, if you asked NU fans when Collins was hired, would have sounded INCREDIBLE and we would have taken that 10/10 times. That's basically where Collins has gotten us to as a program. At least where NU is at currently, there's still very little margin for error, a missed class or two (as the Hunger & Clayton classes look to be) will just make certain years rebuilding years for the young kids.

All the games we lost this year were because of Collins.

The road not taken is; What would have happened if the young players now, who are showing some ability, had been allowed five minutes a game earlier in the season? Injuries happen more when players are tired. We don't know if Barny's foot would have not deteriorated if he had played 5-7 minutes lees per game and Leach was pressing and putting in a heroic effort when he went down. Not to mention the idea that if you are playing 10 guys instead of 7, the opponent had to practice for and account for more configurations. NU was pretty one dimensional with only really 7 (tired) guys ever on the floor.

Unfortunately, the injured Barnhizer was not a particularly good player after awhile.
I agree that the culture at NU under Collins is strong. Thats a nice change from a few years ago.
But it is pretty hard to credit Collins when guys he wasn't playing are proving they are pretty good.
This is actually a recurring theme.
Ciaravino and Windham are going to compete - that was obvious long ago.
However, Mullins has been something of a fiasco from a coaching perspective, along with the Hunger/Fitzmorris confusion.
Using Clayton over Windham seems to be an ongoing mistake.
On the other hand, inserting Ciaravino into the lineup for Berry worked well for awhile.
I'm sure this will incite howls, but I think the players have re-rallied and pulled their coach out of his personal funk after Leach went down with his injury. So I credit Nicholson, Berry, Martinelli, Windham, Mullins and Ciaravino, in that order, for carrying on with passion.
We are 8-2 in our last 10 games against Nebraska. I don’t think Collins and his staff have any problems with UNL.
