This one is for losers:
Northwrstern is now 116th of 128 teams in yards per play, at 4.3. Among major conference program, BC, Kansas, UCF are lower. Minnesota (tied with Duke at 4.8 - 10% better than NU) is the next lowest in the B1G.

For comparison, Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU are top three in the nation at 9.3, 8.1, 7.7. (Wonder why, yesterday excepted, Texas is down?) OSU leads the B1G (tied with Stanford) and ranks 15th in the nation at 6.6.

This wasn't my stat - but it was mentioned on Gameday yesterday as an indicator that nu had a tough road Saturday.

Michigan is 58th at 5.4, and iowa is 45th at 5.6.

Let's see if nu can pick it up next week. Obviously, 'limit mistakes and wait did a defensive or special teams play' has worked for the most part, but maybe it's time to open it up a bit...

stats are like bikinis,,,,,they reveal a lot ... but not everything!
