Pack those first 3 from IA and ship them to Evanston. I'd be ecstatic. All Sophomores that contribute heavily, will be in high demand in the portal.

Josh Dix and Harding are two guys I would be happy to have. Kinda meh on the younger Sandfort.

To be clear, I don't think any of these guys are coming to Evanston, but Dix and Harding are more than welcome in my book.

Dix is a JR so, unless he already graduated, he is not eligible to transfer.

Young Sandford and Freeman are both SO, plenty of room for improvement.

If collins left, we would be in the same boat as Iowa is now?
It’s a slightly different situation only because we have so many first years coming in. A lot of their status would depend on the next coaching hire. I still think Northwestern has a lot of equity for kids who are academically oriented. I also think most of the underclassmen would stick around to earn their degree. The only guys on the current roster who would attract power school interest would be Nick and maybe KJ.

Definitely KJ.

He had no power offers as a high school recruit, though his stock has clearly risen.

I think most coaches have either known or realized that they're a lot better off just watching the freshmen play and trying to get them via the portal, instead of guessing what they'll do based on their junior year of high school basketball.

Obviously the 5 stars are a different matter - but the recruiting landscape has changed so dramatically since the transfer rules were eliminated - that change alone was monumental. Throw in the NIL and payments stuff/nonsense and the new world is incomparable to the old one.

Northwestern still has to recruit high school kids. Most other programs shouldn't waste their time and resources.

JT Rock 7'1" 245 lbs Redshirt Sophomore. High School class of 2024. Leaving Iowa State after sitting on the bench.

"The 7-foot-1, 245-pound prospect at Sioux Falls (SD) Lincoln chose the Cyclones over offers from Creighton, Iowa, Purdue, Kansas, and others. "

Would give special meaning to the whole "Pound The Rock" thing.

No Nebraska, Michigan State, and Maryland as of the 3/30 update. With the coaching change at Maryland I assume some with enter.

This is what makes the portal so bad. For many players Lack of playing time or not a good fit makes sense. But when you have a three year player and captain enter the portal that just raises the issue of no loyaltybb

I know, what about coaches. But Michigan State isn’t some tier three basketball school where the coach is always looking to move up. The coaches and players are already at the top of the mountain.

This is a weird one. Not immediately clear why Holloman would leave. I can think of several possibilities.
1) Coach Izzo has recruited over him, and he sees a drop in playing time coming based on next year's roster.
2) Newly emerging personality clash with teammates or coaches.
3) Someone back-channeled a big money offer.
4) Green or white headbands no longer doing it for him. Looking to expand his color palette.

My guess is he wants to see how much NIL bag he can get. He’s probably a borderline NBA prospect, so this is his last chance to make real coin.

That and he might want to have a more dominant role on some offense. So he can put up bigger numbers and raise his draft stock. Traditionally MSU is a place to share the rock.

Better if his name were PT Rock...

Better opportunity, better fit in his mind.

Have you ever changed jobs after 3 years or less? Anyone that worked for you? Could be same reasons.

Exactly. And to add on to that, it’s free market at work. Even a school like MSU that’s going to have plenty of money to throw around can’t pay everyone. Free player movement and completely open compensation model means a more idealized distribution of talent.

The more talented your roster, the harder it is to keep guys. If you have a ton of talent, then the third best guy on your team can still get “top dog” dollars somewhere else if he moves. Even with big NIL budgets, you still can’t over allocate money to that “third best” guy otherwise you’ll also lose your top players (or won’t be able to lure in a new top dollar guy).

Can’t imagine Izzo sticks around much longer. This one has got to sting.
