He would be a massive upgrade, with him and Nick on the inside, both likely drawing double teams, the perimeter would really open up for 3s. I imagine it will take quite a bag of nil to land Mara, especially as bigs are generally quite expensive this year.UCLA’s Mara is an intriguing prospect. We double and triple teamed him in this year’s game and still couldn’t stop him.
A massive upgrade over who? Nicholson? or one of the incoming freshmen? He would be a massive upgrade, with him and Nick on the inside, both likely drawing double teams, the perimeter would really open up for 3s. That's the key and why this kid's NIL, probably higher than the already "higher than the rest big man NIL", is, most likely, out of reach for us (suggested also by the fact we heard nothing about him having heard from NU).because Mara has upside.
Yet, we supposedly have top half B1G NIL war heat and we recruit a poor man’s Big Matt. That's the key and why this kid's NIL, probably higher than the already "higher than the rest big man NIL", is, most likely, out of reach for us (suggested also by the fact we heard nothing about him having heard from NU).

It was in an article published by Lou. It surprised me as well.Seriously though - who is saying we have "top half NIL?"
I'm not questioning what you wrote, I'm assuming there are people claiming that - I just don't know how informed these "insiders" are.
Martinelli is taking a good portion and rightfully so.Yet, we supposedly have top half B1G NIL war heat and we recruit a poor man’s Big Matt.
Ok, but if this is accurate we got the funds to pay more than just Nick.Martinelli is taking a good portion and rightfully so.

It’s almost as if “reporters” that run a subscription based fan site that caters exclusively to fans of one single university’s athletic programs will pass along whatever nonsense is fed to them by their contacts within the program… because if they don’t carry water for the program they’ll lose access and therefore can’t provide any value to their subscribers.
It’s not exclusive to the fine folks that run this site. Every single idiot running a subscription college fan site does it; they don’t really have a choice. But it’s really led to a collapse in quality sports journalism at the collegiate level.
Exactly what benefit is it for “sources” to falsely claim NU is in the upper half of The B1G in availability of NIL funds? It’s almost as if “reporters” that run a subscription based fan site that caters exclusively to fans of one single university’s athletic programs will pass along whatever nonsense is fed to them by their contacts within the program… because if they don’t carry water for the program they’ll lose access and therefore can’t provide any value to their subscribers.

If anything, it eliminates an excuse and puts pressure on the staff to use the funds wisely.
Understood, my question was more to why would a statement like this be beneficial for the staff? Not sure why they would want this out there as I believe it intensifies the pressure to immediately win.Vassar should answer for himself, but my guess is that he is saying that it benefits the home team journalist to publish whatever the school/coach tells him, basically as a minister of propaganda, in order to curry favor and increase traffic to the website.

Yeah exactly. Every program says stuff like this to the people who cover their teams. It’s akin to when they talk about how great the new QB looks during spring practice. Or how the new transfer guard has absolutely elevated this team during offseason workouts. (And then sometimes once the season starts, you see that in fact that’s not true.)Oh sorry, I misunderstood. I think the coaches would put it out there that "we have money for players" to get prospective players (their agents) to pick up the phone and inquire. Short-term recruiting tool. Or its just part of the "We are a major player, but we get no respect" campaign that NU sometimes plays.
