BREAKING: Cats land Jordan Lathon

Its true that Lathon was a bit of a late bloomer. However, I don't think Kansas City players generally gain notice until they hit the AAU circuit. The KC and KCK public league teams are virtually non-existant. And with a couple of exception, the Catholic/Private schools are more football oriented. Of course, there are exceptions.
.I am guessing that if Lathon had played across the state in one of the St. Louis programs he would have been noticed much earlier.

Interested to see how Lathon plays in college compared to high rated recruits from the St. Louis area like Goodwin who we chased.

While the past teams had to excel on D to be competitive, it was because they were scoring-challenged. Watch for the NU offense to be much better when NU can put 5 guys on the floor, all of whom can potentially score in double figures. This season will be fun!

Yes but I loved those long runs we were putting together at the end of the season and those where there because of good D which denied the opposition the opportunity to score. We demoralized a couple of teams with those runs.

Lets not forget that Cormac Ryan was the #1 - over both Lathon and Ayo. but they all had offers. it was really a case of who pulled the trigger first. I imagine if Ryan commited to NU that both Lathon and Ayo would have been told sorry - that posistion is full

This all indicates how highly Collins thinks of Lathon.
More like he read the tea leaves that Ayo isn't happening.

I am not wishing Goodwin ill, but I will be interested to see how he is affected by that bad shoulder that prematurely ended his senior season. Those kinds of displacements seem to have a tendency to become chronic. I hope he has a long and healthy career, but that shoulder is a red flag.

note the timeline...

cats secure commitment from lathon
on the following monday, Ayo tweets his excitment about visting northwesternon the following day
later that day the report comes out that NU is no longer an option for Ayo

and you think NU still wanted Ayo??? you think Ayo all of a sudden changed after tweeting his excitement for visting NU the following day?

THAT IS FUNNY. THANK YOU FOR THE LAUGH.

Cats took a PG. Ayo had a schollie and didn't commit. too bad for him. if there are tea leaves they are celebration leaves for Lathon.

You're turning down a borderline 5-star Chicago PG? That's the real joke.

It's actually a strong quality for CC to take a PG he knows he can get, and of his resources on a more likely my recruit. You want an example of the opposite? Groce lost his job because this, in part.

I think the point is more that Ayo was excited about visiting NU but after the Lathon commitment there was no room for him. I don't think NU turned him down, I believe it was Collins honoring his promise to Lathon that if he committed to NU he would be the lead guard, and probably had a similar understanding with Ayo had he committed first.

How many top PGs did Groce have on his roster? taking high rated kids for the sake of a high rated kid is not always the best move for roster or chemistry - CCC has put huge emphasis into chemistry and fit. if Ayo was a sure fire NBA 1 year pick then you roll the dice. but he is not. he is a very good high level who didn't commit before other very good players at the same posistion.

CCC has shown he has a plan and roster vision in place, and i highly doubt that changes unless there is a Jabari or Anthony Davis or even Tyler Ulis type kid - a clear 1-year program changer. The guy has single handedly change the history of NU basketball. Until he proves otherwise i'll trust his judgement.
