Bulletin board material for Fitz

This evaluation is strictly for Sin City interested parties - you know... bettors. These types are as fickle with their opinions as they are irrational regarding the salient facts of either team's value when considering the sum of their individual whole seasonal field play workload. Did NU get "lucky" in their winning the B1G West Division championship... some uninformed observers would conclude "most certainly." However, to state so flippantly ignores the obvious circumstances. When they needed a superior performance, the 'Cats delivered. Look no further than the Nebby BugEater game - in which the 'Cats had to score 10 points in the game's final 3 minutes just to tie the game to qualify for OT - the results of which which this author summarily dismisses as an aberration from his self-imposed "norm" for "Just Northwestern." The bottom line point is: NU did the needful and did so with a determined, collective effort that underscores the fact that they can be and are a force to be reckoned-with against any FBS team.

The 'Cats won 8 B1G games, and beat all all of their West Division foes. Any other team do that? No. Period. End of story. Eff this jack-hole and his myopic perspectives. You know in your heart, when Fitz, Doc & even McCall have the time to do so , they will devise a very effective game plan to compete with the Utes and beat them. The biggest factors will be turnovers and stopping the run for either team. If NU gets 3 extra offensive possessions via TOs, then I like their chances at capturing the Holiday Bowl "W" flag and bringing it back to the trophy case in the lobby of the Taj Ma-Fitz.

Jeez, guys. "The fact that the 'Cats are a full-touchdown underdog in their bowl game despite having played for a conference title indicates that oddsmakers see them as having overachieved, as well." This is correct. Just because a guy posting from the perspective of a bettor isn't drooling all over the team you like doesn't make him wrong. From a betting perspective looking at 30+ bowls, this pretty general handicap of this game is just fine.

That all said, I'm betting NU +7 or NU on the money line, due to various trends.

If Fitz is putting *this* up as bulletin board material, he needs a kick in the head.

I wonder how this changes things, especially the Utah defense?

Report: Utah offensive coordinator Troy Taylor is taking the Sacramento State head coaching job

Utah lost two assistants last week, with defensive line coach Gary Andersen becoming Utah State's head coach and taking linebackers coach Justin Ena with him as the Aggies' defensive coordinator.

HC @ Utah St. > HC @ Wiscy > HC @ Oregon St. > DC @ Utah > HC @ Utah St.

Well played, Gary Andersen, well played.

So Utah is down three coaches, including both of their coordinators for the bowl game? That is a big disadvantage if accurate.

Andersen might do better there. He'll recruit a ton of jaycees (which Wisconsin wouldn't let him do) and competition won't be as tough as it was at Oregon State where he failed miserably.

"Jaycees?" Is that old school for "choir boy?"

Lol. I remember when Denny Green actually brought a few junior college transfers in here. One of them, Steve Tasker, turned out pretty well. Of course, he came here after two years of straight As at his "jaycee."

If we want to change the “overperformer” narrative nationally, we need to blow people off the field. It’s on us.

We need to quit letting Rutgers and Illinois hang with us deep into game. We need to be playing tuba players from the band in the second half.

We need to quit hyperventilating and starting thread anytime an NU alum gets elevated from the practice squad, starts a game, makes a reception or makes a tackle. We should expect them to have success in the pros, and not be shocked or doing back-flips over it.

We need to manhandle teams like a Wisconsin and PSU and Iowa and, yes ... not just barely best Michigan but stomp them and humiliate them until Harbaugh either goes berserk on the sideline, or better yet, cries.

And to do that, we need to up our recruiting game. Not just an extra 1 or 2 studs per team. More like 4 studs per class. Guys who can go toe to to with the kind of athletes UM and OSU and PSU and MSU get, and win those battles.

We are really close. We have all the power tools we need to build one hell of a machine. Now it’s on us to do it.

NU isn’t about to start signing a bunch of JUCOs for a ton of reasons.

maybe NU needs to get a few more Tasker's.

Utah fan here

Anderson wasn't the DC, he was the DT coach. Defensive coordinator is sticking around, but I'm not happy about the OC leaving. Good grief, we will be going on our 9th OC in 11 years.

Season looks a lot less "special" if we lose our last two and end up 8-6. Win, and it looks like we righted the ship after 1-3 and lost only to respectable games to top 10 teams after that. Lose to 4 loss Utah, and it confirms the lucky, weak division narrative
