Rugby is a varsity sport at Cal, self funded by alumni, I believe. They have dominated college rugby for as long as I remember. Jack Clark is/was their legendary coach. He also coached the USA Eagles and had a west coast bias for selecting players. My club team, Potomac Athletic Club (PAC) was the first east coast team to win the national club championship.

BYU has risen to prominence on the backs of Mormon Pacific Islanders. The Samoan players have years of experience and essentially are men playing against boys. The Utah Samoan club teams have ,unfortunately but appropriately, been banned from competition due to violence against referees , opposing teams and spectators.

The Eagles still field a disproportionate number of Pacific Islanders however.

I am sorry I missed the game
