EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head coach men’s basketball coach Chris Collins has announced the addition of A.J. Turner to the Wildcats’ roster as a transfer.
Turner played his first two collegiate seasons at Boston College and will sit out the 2017-18 season due to NCAA rules. He will have two seasons of competition remaining beginning in the 2018-19 campaign.
“We’re very excited to add A.J. Turner into the Northwestern basketball program,” Collins said. “A.J. brings great experience having played two years in the ACC. He’s a long, skilled wing player who will fit in great with the culture we have created here at Northwestern.”
A 6-foot-7 forward, Turner appeared in 59 games including making 52 starts during his time at Boston College. This past season, he ranked fourth on the team with an average of 8.4 points per game while shooting 42.4 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from 3-point range. Turner handed out 96 assists and led the ACC with a 2.91 assist-to-turnover ratio.
His top performance came in a Jan. 1 home win over Syracuse when he posted a career-high 16 points and 6 assists. Turner also had 15 points at Miami (Fla.) and contributed 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in a contest at Duke.
A native of Mt. Clemens, Michigan, Turner was ranked as a top-150 high school recruit in the nation. He played his first three prep seasons at De La Salle Collegiate High School in Warren, Michigan, the same school as former Wildcat Alex Marcotullio. Turner played his final high school season at New Hampton School in New Hampshire which is the same school attended by Northwestern incoming freshman Anthony Gaines.
