Clifton Moore

Oh, come on! Lindsey averaged 19 minutes a game and 6 points per game as a sophomore. Ash averaged 3 minutes per game and 0.6 points per game. By all reports Ash is a great teammate and a fine young man, but the two are not comparable. We can get away with not securing another guard in the 2017 class, but it will make us more desperate than we want to be going into the 2018 recruiting season.

I'm not predicting Ash will approach Scottie numbers as a Junior. But I do think he can become a serviceable back-up, which he wasn't this season. Did anyone really think Scottie would be all Big 10 this year? Nope.

This is all very good news. Bring these young men to play for NU! If three of them wanted to play for us, then could we take all three? I thought we only have two spots to fill? With two seniors graduating?

I seem to remember they had a few decent players, one that comes to mind is an undersized center named Shaquille O'Neill. Also, Jamie Brandon, a CPS legend from King, attended LSU.
Yep - I remember watching king on TV with Brandon and I believe Marcus liberty was on that team. I also believe Brandon was charged in a kidnapping case when he was at LSU. One of the best high school players I remember watching. That being said, because lsu was once good doesn't mean anything - army used to dominate college football - times change, lsu is a football school, which maybe can get to a Miami or FSU level at basketball but you will always be second fiddle at your own school - I would compare it to the PSU or Nebraska jobs

Actually, I'm confused about that as well. I've read on here many times that we could have room for three. Does this assume something new happens with Vassar's schollie? Can anyone explain again?

Watching his tape, Gaines looks like an ideal plug in at the 2 spot. I think we'd ideally like a bit more size at the 3, like Justin Smith.

Gaines actually doesn't look terrible in a football uniform either... sign him up as a jump-ball specialist, Fitz?

Link to Gaines' junior football highlights here.

Vassar's schollie is available.

So for next year, Lumpkin, Skelly and Vassar.

Next year: Lindsey, BMac and Skelly

The call to be made by the coaches is whether a player than can get this spring will be better then a player then someone they are after for 2018.

The other issue is this, for any kid who comes in this year, you are recruiting them to play a year at Allstate Arena. For any 2018 kid, you are recruiting them to a new stadium, new locker rooms and a new basketball facility. Which job is easier ....

Vassar's spot is available, but with 10 players returning and Gaines already committed, we still only have room for 2 more.

Should the first skelly be taphorn?

His tapes have me excited about AG. He is athletic and just has a nose for the ball (and the rim!). I think he could play bigger than his size based on effort and athleticism. What I can't tell from those clips is how good of an outside shooter he is. Most of those clips were of him getting to the rim. He hit a couple threes and they looked pretty good, but I have no idea how consistently he shoots them. The lack of 3s in his highlight clips makes you wonder if this is not a strength.

He definitely seems to be more of a slasher/finisher based on what I've read (which isn't a ton), but there are at least a couple reports indicating his jumper should at least be serviceable. The link below is the most comprehensive non-subscription write-up I could find:

Here is a guy who they want to bring in to make 3s

I have to admit I kinda overlooked AG when he signed. I looked at theee stars, and his listed height / weight by Rivals, and immediately assumed he is a development project. Watching the tape, a few things stand out to me:
  1. Bigger than his listed weight. He has a much more college ready body than Lindsey when he came in.
  2. Serious athleticism. Find the clip of his dunk from one step inside the free throw line.
  3. A slasher that seems to know how to get to the rim and finish strong. A different finishing style than Brown.
  4. Takes a lot of pride in his defense. Considers himself a lockdown defender. Don't underestimate the importance of this! So much of our success this season was due to our D.

Given the current roster for 2017/18, I really like the second team the Cats can put on the floor:

1- Brown, with a full offseason of development under his belt he could shine
2- Gaines, a tough nosed slasher with plus ball handling skills
3- Ivanauskas, a very long, skilled player with better ball handling skills than any other 4 on the roster. Playing the 3 is a stretch, but maybe feasible? Need to see his D.
4- Skelly, hopefully continues to improve his 3 pt shooting to play the stretch 4. Great rebounder and all around tough kid.
5- Benson, just simply can't wait to see what he is capable of after a full offseason of strength and skill development. I'm really high on this kid.

Have never been this excited for "next year".

The second team looks pretty good but don't forget that there will likely be two more players still to be added to the roster. Thinking that Gaines is more of a 3 and Ivanauskas a 4.

No. SG. 6-5 170.
11 offers incl all academically strong private unis except Duke.

Looks great, but he's a 2018 prospect. I'm still focused on who CCC can bring in to further improve our team in 2017/18.

While not terribly specific, this guy has a long list of possible destinations for Moore (including NU):

If they can't land an impact grad transfer big that they really like, I wouldn't mind taking Moore as a developmental guy. Seems like those guys who were guards and hit a growth spurt late usually tend to be pretty good.
