As I post this the Northwestern Pinstripe Bowl package is down for some reason. Suffice it to say it is substantially more per person. My best recollection is that NU's package for double occupancy is about $1,000 per person compared to the Pittsburgh package at $665 per person for double occupancy.

Also Pitt provides coach transportation to the game while NU's travel provider/agency offers a subway ticket.

NU gouging its students and alums again.

As an alum of both schools, it's nice to have options.

Maybe if we go bowling every year like Pitt we will get better at negotiating.

I am sure they have higher numbers so they might be getting a volume discount and guaranteeing numbers to the hotel? Volume does make a difference. Also, quality of hotel?

Honestly, Pitt has always offered incredible Bowl package offers. They truly go above and beyond for very reasonable prices.

I refer you to my original thread about NU's bowl package featuring The Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge is still available for sale

Well the virtue of the subway ticket is that you will get to and from the game faster than a coach in NYC traffic... /s/

Interesting that both hotels are located in Times Square. Sheraton Times Square for Northwestern and InterContinental New York Times Square for Pittsburgh. I assume they are within walking distance of each other?

I know you're being sarcastic, and some might not want to deal with the subway, but there is zero question that taking the 4 from GCT / Midtown will be 10+ mins faster than trying to drive to Yankee Stadium from there... not to mention the logistics of getting back after the game.

Of course that is without the police escort that Pittsburgh has arranged. /s/

On a serious note, it does not appear that there is any requirement that one be a Pittsburgh alum to take advantage of their better deal. One can separately purchase the Northwestern Pregame Tailgate and still enjoy all the comaraderie with the Purple People while staying over night at the InterContinental and having coach transportation to and from the game. Actually you would have tickets to both schools' tailgates so one could sample food fare from both.

After filling up on Brie with the Wildcats you can top it off with Pierogi with the Panthers.

(The NU alumni tour will sell out in any event - as it has for every bowl game to date - so no worry about denying our Alumni Association of their profit.)

Both hotels appear to be 4 Star properties:

Here is a link to the Intercontinental Times Square Hotel located at 44th and 8th:

I actually was serious about the faster part and if I were on my own, I'd probably do that. But the idea of a subway card as part of a travel package is worse than no ostensible ground transfer at all.

Trust me, taking ground transportation to and from Yankee Stadium is something that you would only want to do if you are a masochist, or enjoy sitting in said ground transportation for hours on end.

I live in Manhattan and go to lots of Yankee games. You should take the subway unless you are staying in NJ. You take the 4 train from Grand Central or the D from Columbus Circle. Fast, safe, easy and $5.50 round trip. Buy your metro card for the full round trip when heading up there.

I'm a longtime Starwood guy and a frequent traveler, mostly for business. Run - do not walk - away from the Sheraton Times Square. At one time it was decent - no longer (and definitely no 4 Star). You want Times Square, the Westin is a good choice. But if you're planning on taking the subway to the game and prefer less chaos, The Westin Grand Central (use to be the Helmsley) has never been a bad decision for me. Also not a bad value, for NY.

I've always taken the shuttle bus from grand central. I think it is currently $14
It appears on the map that Grand Central is the same distance from Yankee Stadium as is the airport. Why not go directly to the airport? Is it a matter of cost?

Did not realize you were going straight from the game to the airport. A look at uber today shows $34.98 to travel from stadium to LGA. Public trans isn't the easiest way to get there, so this would likely work best.

If you want to go via a car, the challenges are twofold: 1) meeting up with your vehicle is not easy and 2) what do you do with your luggage? Going back into midtown, getting your stuff and procuring a ride is much easier.

Agreed. Even the lobby at the Sheraton Times Square is bad, and they just renovated it! Another Starwood option relatively close to Columbus Circle and the D train to the Stadium is the Parker Meridien (bit pricey). For Hyatt fans the Grand Hyatt above Grand Central is pretty nice.

So using Uber to the game AM from LAG and back to LAG PM after the game is the best bet? No luggage involved.

The last time I went to a bowl game, a female fan of the opposing team complimented my package.

Yes, I thought I saw you there.....
