Credit to Lujan

I don’t know what he was doing to confuse the Purdue D with RBs coming out of the backfield. But it worked all game, and it got NU the win.

And some advice for him: don’t take 12 off the field. He’ll miss some throws, sure. But he’s the only QB with upside.
I agree that it was one of his better called games. But the O seems very disorganized and undisciplined. All those self inflicted penalties get hard to take. Having to use all our timeouts and penalties because we weren't ready to get the play off could have cost us. Not to mention holding and personal fouls

Really nice W for a game that so easily could have gone either way. The NU O finally rejoined the team.

After just throwing away a likely W in regulation, Lausch must take great satisfaction in throwing the game-winner.

How lucky was NU that NONE of those MANY, VERY HIGH snaps from center were TOs?

Something is wrong somewhere when you get a delay of game at 3rd and 10 on the opponents' 20.

And mouthing off for a 15-yarder after PU's failure to convert first OT possession.

The holding are the result of a lack of talent and execution mostly. Guys lose their matchups and starting holding on for dear life.

Not saying Lujan is immune from criticism, but the penalties aren’t on him.

The defensive penalties a couple weeks in a row is something Braun needs to root out with fire.

OP is 100% right, Lujan dialed up two A+ plays in OT.

The pre snap penalties, which are numerous, and the inability to get to the line of scrimmage with plenty of time to snap the ball is something the OC and HC need to take accountability for.

Yes, that is spot on. As I said, far from immune from criticisms.

Yes. The presnap stuff is absolutely on the coaches. It’s a few things. Not getting the play call in quickly enough, not getting the sub packages ready to run in on the sidelines and/or the players not truly comprehending the playbook (which is absolutely on the coaches because we have extremely bright players IQ wise).

The holding penalty on Thompson was on him. Let go when the RB gets past you! The face mask one on Uihlein is tough to avoid in real time. The Cam hold was bang bang but worth the risk given Lausch gets flattened without it.

I didn't see any hold on the Thompson play. If that's a hold, you have to throw one on every play.

Gordon had an offensive PI called on him in the first half on a screen pass to Henning. You don't see that call everyday, but on the replay it was clear that he started blocking the DB while the pass was still in the air. Poor execution or communication somewhere, I guess.

That was really close. I am not sure that he physically touched the DB until Henning already had the ball.

Questionable calls going against NU all day. I thought there was a hold that could have easily been called on Purdue on their TD pss right before the half. The Mockibee TD run should have been ruled as forward progress was stopped. I could go with a long list.

My rough estimate is they call holding about 50 percent of the time a RB or QB bounces a play outside when it's supposed to go inside.

Looked to me like Gordon was clearly locked up with the DB before the ball got to Henning, though only for a second or two. Probably 50-50 whether to let that one go.

NU got bad spots on third down plays at least twice. One on a Porter run and one on a pass to Henning on the sideline. Both looked like first down conversions, though NU did convert on fourth down after the latter play.

The Mockibee TD was a joke. He was held up for like five seconds. Need to blow the whistle there.

Oh, don’t get me started on the bad spot on the Henning catch. That was clearly a first down.

Nah. That’s on Lausch. Ball has to be out more quickly. Gordon can’t look back there.

Not making excuses for the officials, especially because we got the worst end of the stick, but I actually sat next to the head ref at the Wisconsin game (he was scouting NU for a future game - guess this one) and he’s brand new at this level. Seems like a good guy/hungry to be a ref but you could definitely tell he was a little nervous. Learning curve for everyone. Just glad we won at the end of the day or I might not have been so charitable in my comments lol.

The missing holding call on Pate was particularly egregious.

Sorry but not being ready to run the play and having to call multiple time outs to avoid delay of game penalties and actual delay of game penalties are definitely on the coaching staff. And it happens every week. Could it be that they don't have a good system for getting them in? Are they getting them in late? Are they too complicated? That is coaching staff all the way. And it happens every week. Could easily add other pre snap penalties.

As far as the holding, occasionally it can be talent deficit but how much of it is poor technique and fundamentals? A lot falls on the coaching staff. We have gone from a team that is least penalized to one where we are pushing double digit penalties every week.

And some advice for him: don’t take 12 off the field. He’ll miss some throws, sure. But he’s the only QB with upside.
What he was doing to confuse the defense was just playing the worst defense in FBS (not really but close). This Purdue team is giving up 40 points a game. If the offense looked bad today, then there is no hope. Call a good game against a solid Ill defense, and then I might throw out some accolades

Purdue plays one free safety with almost everyone else in man to man. There are many situations where inside backers are supposed to cover men out of the backfield. If you get enough pressure it will often times work. Our backfield action and rolling Jack out confused their coverage. Well done.

This. Scoring 26 on a team giving up 40 a game means your offense still sucks.

The face mask looked like it was a really close call and could have gone either way. Now on the very next play the refs did not call holding on them when it was blatant and allowed them to complete a longer pass. That was sort of a double whammy that changed the game.

The Purdue D is easily confused. They are not very good

They were also able to overcome a lot of significant penalties. Getting first downs in spite of being put behind the chains by penalties
