Fitzgerald defendant in lawsuit filed by ex-player

Former Northwestern football coach Pat Fitzgerald is among the defendants listed in a lawsuit filed by a former Wildcats player who said the program and its leaders were negligent in allowing hazing inside the locker room.

The player was at the school from 2018-22 and their lawsuit lists several university officials from the past and present along with Pat Fitzgerald as defendants. The player alleges that they were negligent in allowing hazing within the program.

From the Athletic:

“More players are expected to join the legal action in the coming days. The legal action is expected to expand beyond Northwestern’s football program and will expose extreme and abusive hazing in other college athletic programs as well.”

Call it whatever you want, and in no way am I diminishing what happened at NU, but you can bet versions of it are happening/have happened in just about every locker room across every sport (male and female). This could be college athletics' #metoo movement.

In a very sick sort of way it's good that the first shoe dropped at Northwestern, because if it happened here then it's an easier case to make that it's happening everywhere.
