I threw out the last 2 minutes of the game because it was free throws and intentional fouls and a lot of substitutions.... with 8 points for each team.

Ty Berry's injury followed immediately after NU's best segment of the game, a 9-2 blitz with Hunger, Martinelli, Berry, Langborg and Buie on the court for 2:16.
Assuming Berry is not going to be able to play against Penn State, the new starting lineup will be Nicholson / Martinelli / Barnhizer / Langborg / Buie.
That group scored 33 and allowed 34 in under 18 minutes against the Cornhuskers.
Jordan Clayton played 9 minutes and we scored 9 and allowed 8 when he was on the court (ignoring the garbage time, of course).
Luke Hunger played 10 minutes and NU put up an impressive 25 points and allowing 14.
We usually score at a high rate when Luke is in the game.

Brooks Barnhizer, Ryan Langborg and Boo Buie provided the margin of victory.
Buie had a bad stretch from about 8 minutes to 2:30 in the 2nd half, knocking him off the "star of the game" podium.

The "Golden Lineup" of Nicholson, Martinelli, Barnhizer, Berry and Buie played 38 seconds and lost 3-2.
This was the segment where Berry hurt his knee and Barnhizer fouled Tominaga on a 3 point attempt.
Fingers crossed that the Golden Lineup gets back on the court soon.

If Berry can't play, we're looking at the oft-discussed injury scenario. We have 5 guys playing 4 positions. What are we going to do if one of those 5 guys gets hurt?
If Collins really wants his best players on the court then he will play Preston and Hunger more than he plays Clayton.
Clayton will have to play better than he has so far or he will be a drag on our future performances.
Hopefully Berry is good to go. Otherwise, its time to see how well we've developed "Plan B."

My man Martinelli played way better than the numbers show. And I think I know why, because he played all of the 2nd half, when we were controlling the game and not so much giving them a good beating.
No doubt Martinelli played well.
He just didn't put up rebounds, steals, etc.
But he did score efficiently and play defense, whereas Langborg had 7 rebounds and 6 assists...

Won’t show up in your stat either but based off his threat to score inside he had some nicely timed cuts that opened things up for Langborg and others. Martinelli is making a habit of stepping up into an increased role due to injury.

Also thought it was the timing of his scoring. Seemed like it totally killed a bit of momentum Nebraska had a couple of times.

Hunger at the 4 and Nicholson at the 5?

Lets imagine the worst...
Ty Berry tore his meniscus and is done for the season.

We have three centers, plus Martinelli, Barnhizer, Langborg, Buie.
Then we have the freshman Clayton and the untested Mullins.

Collins is a three guard guy. He has already shown us that he is going to (try) to use Clayton to provide rest for Martinelli, Barnhizer, Buie and Langborg. That is the only approach he tried after Berry left the game.

Unfortunately, so far this season, for every minute that Clayton has played in non-garbage time, we've been outscored by about a third of a point. (Clayton is -39 over 113 minutes). Everybody else on the team has a positive +/-. Typically the rest of the team is +0.10 per minute, with Buie and Nicholson around +0.15 per minute.

The other bad news is that our new starting lineup (Nicholson / Martinelli / Barnhizer / Langborg / Buie) has not played well so far this season. 133-133 after 78 minutes of game time. That doesn't measure up to the prior starters (Nicholson/Barnhizer/Berry/Langborg/Buie) who outscored our opponents 421-368 in 262 minutes.

Preston / Hunger / Barnhizer / Langborg / Buie is one way to rest Martinelli and Nicholson at the same time.

NU has a good 6. The starters plus Martinelli.

Hunger, Clayton, Preston have seen some time and done some good/some bad.
Mullins, Barkley and Strauss really have no data.

This past game Hunger benefitted from the barage in the first half. Second half he only played 4 mins and had a dunk blocked and missed the 2 layups. His plus/minus was 0.

Hungers plus/minus the last few games (just the raw)

Minn. -10
Purdue -2
Ohio St +15
Illinios. DNP-CD
Nebraska. -9
Maryland -3
Wisconsin. -1
Penn st. -8
Mich st. +13

Except for the super 6, they all need work. Hunger was more aggressive in the non league games. Needs to step up and bring the confidence in the league.

Just guessing, but Preston and Clayton probably are scout teams guys and do not time with guys expected to play. Not an excuse. Still have to be ready. Hunger should be practicing with the starters and beexpected to produce more. Especially with the Berry knee issue.

If Berry is out for the year, what’s the chance we see Straus like pardon for Olah in the past.
