Game Thread: Northwestern vs. Washington

Some guys just don’t want to spend 5 or more years in college before they got on with their life. I can assure you he wasn’t pressured into dropping the redshirt. He basically gets an eight game audition to show he belongs. If he fails miserably he eventually drops a level. Red shirting is stupid nowadays. He should have seen a few minutes during the season.
There are people saying (with 100% conviction) that Clayton told Collins he was redshirting, then Clayton told Collins he was willing to play against Washington.
Others assume Collins told Clayton that he should redshirt.
I have no idea which is correct, but it isn't both.

It's interesting how Martinelli scores so much more in the second half than in the first half of the game yesterday being yet another example four points in the first half 19 in the second.
Teams tend to score more in the second half of games as well. We have seen a lot of games where both teams are around or under 25 point and by the end of the game they are in th high 60s or 70s. Seems the nature of things.

The phrasing on Clayton reported by CCC was he "offered" to drop his redshirt to help. That implies the redshirt was at least partially his preference and that he would have been fine if CCC had declined. Again, it does sort of directly point to something like an intent to transfer or some other outside information playing into this we aren't aware of.

Also, I'll be honest: if we're recruiting guys who don't want to figure out how to play basketball as long as they possibly can, I'd they'd rather just go be an entry level marketing professional instead... I don't want to recruit such a guy. I don't think we are though, players love to play, they generally don't get to this point otherwise.

I don’t see why Clayton playing points to a transfer? If I was Clayton and I was transferring the last thing I would be doing is giving up a year of eligibility for the school I am transferring from.

I assume you understand the commitment it takes to play a D1 sport and have the same academic requirements as every other student. I can tell you it’s a grind. If was on the bench for almost all my 4 years, I am not sure I would be fired up to work my ass off for another year of splinter picking. That has to be a realistic chance of making a difference. Being a practice dummy isn’t enticing,

Again, the exact phrasing was he "offered" to play. It's a bizarre choice by Collins if Clayton "offered" to play and CCC felt like "oh well I've got spots to fill, so I'll sacrifice an entire year of eligibility of a guy I like the future of for 8 meaningless games."
