How about rebuilding the new Ryan Field on the Lakefill?

With all the excitement around football games on campus -- on the lakefill, no less -- it would be great for Northwestern to adjust its rebuilding plans for the new stadium. The campus and downtown Evanston have plenty of parking on weekends and during the summer for games and concerts, as opposed to the current Ryan Field location. Plus, it would put an end to the ongoing conflict with neighborhoods surrounding Ryan Field. Imagine how downtown Evanston restaurants and bars would benefit from all the pre- and post-game visitors. Plus, the current Ryan Field location could be repurposed into practice and competition fields for other non-revenue sports.

Little late for that.

Then where would we play while it's being built? Maybe the Long Field idea is back in play!

Space may be an issue, particularly that Kellogg building that is practically within the footprint of the planned temporary stadium.

However, what if they were to relocate Kellogg to Central and Ashland, building there not a new Ryan Field but a new Kellogg Global Galactic Center? And maybe move all the frats there, too. And possibly Tech. A Science, Technology, Entrepreneurship and Men (STEM) campus.

This would create space to construct a lakefront 49,000 seat stadium modeled on one the University had previously at Central and Ashland. An open-air, natural turf, two-tower design. But with better concessions!

Yes, that would certainly reflect the proper priorities of NU. Perhaps a Formula One racetrack as well on the Lakefill.

The campus doesn't even have enough parking to allow its underclassmen to have parking spots and only a limited amount for seniors, much less to support 35,000 football fans on the weekends. I'm not exactly sure where I'm going to park for the temporary 10,000-seat stadium.

Plenty of room over where they tore down the old field!! I hear they even have goalposts. Or they did a couple of days ago…

The choice was between the Ryan Fieldhouse complex or an on campus stadium in that area when the original facilities master plan was being put together. If we had gone for an on campus stadium, then the practice facility would presumably have gone where RF is.

Once the facility was built, there was never going to be a stadium on campus after that.

So yeah this goes back to 2010-2015 when all of the long range planning was being done. Decade too late for this discussion.
