How purple do we expect the crowd to be on Sunday?

IU fans will be coming out of the woodwork this weekend; a red invasion not unlike their Husker football brethren. My guess is that it'll be a pro-Northwestern crowd, but not by that much - maybe 60/40ish. We're generating a bit of a buzz of our own, though, and I'd like to think that perhaps our STH's might be a little less inclined to sell this game, and instead get out there and support the most exciting NU basketball team most of us have ever seen.

I think you answered your own question there.

I wonder if some of the iu fans bail after what they saw from their team last night in Ann Arbor

I'm not sure about bailing on ticket already purchased but it would make sense that Cat fans might be more inspired to seek out the available tickets Scalpers and others are offering.

Right; it's just that when it comes to insight, I'm so far down the list of posters, it takes a telescope to find me. So I was curious as to what our more knowledgeable types thought.

Meh. I'm not going to worry about these things. If the students show up- they will- and NU fan STHs show up- I think they will- then we'll at least have the majority in the lower half of the arena and can create the loudest noise.

I am always amazed that it is those cushly purple seats that are vacant. I am guessing these are the money guys who buy em out of support for NU but then spend lots of the winter elsewhere. Is there a plan in place other than stubhub to get those filled when people know they are out of town.

That was my thought also.

For many of "my guys" (90s IU grads), their support is not what it once was. The spirit of how Crean wants to build a winner doesn't jibe with that BS Indiana spirit of what basketball "should be."

The more-realistic interpretation of that is that Crean is not Bob Knight until he wins a championship.

F MY ALMA MATER!! GO CATS!!

Need a raucous home crowd. A signature win which would look nice on the Big Dance resume.

Im surprised NU isn't incorporating the fact that the World Series trophy will be there into the print and radio advertising - or maybe they have and I haven't noticed.

If anybody has an extra, I can guarantee two things: I'll be in purple, and I'll be loud.

Cubs still suck.
Lmao - spoken like a true red-ass sox fan I assume. Why don't the white sox parade around the "winning the off-season" trophy they claim to win every year. At least they seem to be past the signing shitty old first basemen strategy that worked so well the last few years.

I think we will have a fantastic environment on Sunday. Hoosier Daddy, Crean.

Smithee, I don't see how anyone could say no to you.

Actually, I should rephrase. The Cubs won a World Series and have awesome, likeable players. Cubs fans still suck.

agreed. i think 60/40 is about right. there might have been a bit of an inclination to shift it toward the Cats after the last week, but the thing is the tickets are already purchased cause it is a sellout. i have a couple friends who went last night that thought about coming Sunday, but when they saw the Stubhub prices they (probably understandably) weren't willing to pay that. and Indy fans that already have tickets are unlikely to sell or waste them.

maybe 65/35 if we get a few late swingers to the purple. but as someone else said - i'm assuming / hoping the students show up in force, and the NU fans are a pretty strong majority in the lower bowl - if so then we'll have enough noise on our side.

also slightly tangential - but while the crowds have been strong for the purple the past few weeks, they've been relatively subdued. they get energy for the big plays, but not really sustained through the game. the students are showing up in stronger numbers, but they still aren't getting after it really on a possession to possession basis. i'm kind of thinking that the invasion of IU fans may lead to the sort of raucous back and forth environment that encourages more NU fans to make noise. so maybe that won't be all bad... especially if we beat them!

Go Cats

There are only around 250 tickets available on stubhub, almost none in the lower bowl. Get-in price still $75. Can get into Mackey next week for $11, Cats obviously not a hot ticket in West Laugh.

We saw this, at times, during the NIT years too. The lower bowl can create a nice home court advantage when it's full.

The current Welsh Ryan set up helps offset the types of problems we see at Ryan Field, because most the visiting fans are banished to the rafters where their acoustical impact is lessened.

A 60(NU)/40(IU) full house will sound more like 75/25 split, with an even stronger home crowd feel closer to the court.

Well I think that it will probably be 75 0r 80 % purple. Doubt the hoosiers will number 2,000.

Hope you're right, Willy, but I've gotta believe you're undershooting the mark here.

Actually, not bad to have a decent Indy crowd, Cats are road warriors and play well in front of a hostile crowd. Best of both worlds, home purple student section plus barbarians from Bloomington to keep them focused!

I'm actually thinking that the Indiana crowd will be under 1,500. Think about it, 4,000 to 5,000 NU ST holders, 2,000 students and another 1,000 purple fans, leaving less then 2,000 available seats.

If Pardon looks up and sees lots of red, he'll have another monster game, and we'll win.

There will be a lot of black shirts in the stands.

Strange, since the Purdue game here is already sold out

It will be interesting to see but I suspect that many of the Indiana fans bought tickets early. A few may bail if they can make some money on stub hub but If I was an IU fan and lived on the North Side, I'd have planed this Sunday long ago.

Right. The recent results aren't going to much change the amount of red, I feel. 40% still seems like a good guess.

Plus, our fans always seem to respond better when opposing fans start making noise.

The are 8 seats in the row (purple seats) in front of my row that have been vacant for every game this year.
