The known facts:
- Hank announced we’ll ahead of time he was retiring so this was a succession plan and not a scramble hire.
- JON was not on any published list of DC candidates that I can recall
- None of the current assistants were promoted to DC
Reasonable assumptions:
- Hank was involved or consulted in succession planning and either recommended and/or vetted candidates
Questions:
- Did Hank and Fitz feel that no current assistant was qualified enough to promote to DC? Did they feel that it was too much expectation and a setup for failure for McPherson or McGarigle to take over for Hank?
- Where was JON on the rank list of candidates? Did others turn down the position?
- Was the salary budget appropriate to bring in a top DC given that this was a consistently top tier defense that far outperformed its collective recruit ratings?
