It would be great if Glades could post memories of his roadtrips with Jerry. I believe Jerry lived a modest life in retirement but still fronted the money for Wildcat parties that often resulted in no shows , leaving Jerry holding the bag. No smoking rules were also optional for Jerry. It was rumored he had a letter confirming his medical necessity for cigarettes.
I tried to organize a few Wildcat parties and learned how difficult it was too "push a string"

I'll get back to this thread later. Given our differences in size and personality (small & social vs large & quiet), I was the prop or fall guy for his humor wherever we went. He reminded me of Morey Amsterdam. I got back on him on our last road trip by diving on top of him and humping him in the morning while he was under the covers. The shock of having a 300-lb guy "have his way" with him silenced him for a moment.
Jerry would budget purple parties so that a portion of his trips would be covered, but he'd give away those "profits" to traveling students who wanted to attend his Purple parties.
Yes. Lots of 'no smoking' stories including a missed flight and fast-talking car rental agencies with hilarious lies. Many of you were blamed for smoking in his rental car despite his scoldings.
One thing that amazed me about Jerry is, when given a topic, he could produce a limerick about it on demand in a matter of seconds. He could generate two dozen of them in the time I could write three. His mind was brilliant that way.
