I am not hitting the panic button given we have only lost close games before today but we cannot afford to go to 1-4 in the league. You have to beat MSU. Students have to be going crazy. We need a ton of purple in the building.

When you looked at this stretch of the schedule had to know it was going to be brutal. Nee it more because it is a home game and we need to hold serve

Agree, a must win, but I'm afraid this year will be a near miss on the tourney. Because our outside shooting is going to be inconsistent this year, when teams overplay our inside game, we probably won't win. Purdue is good by not great and showed how that defense can work. We will probably about break even in the Big10 going forward, which will leave us only 5 games over .500 on the season.

Your analysis is spot-on ... which is why I think CC needs to try Angelo a lot more, see if he can keep shooting threes in the high-30s (currently 46.7% with very low attempts), and live with the growing pains on defense.

We have to somehow survive the next few weeks and then the schedule eases up.
Next 3 games:

Mich St
Maryland
at Michigan

We have to win at least 1 of these, 1-6 in conference would be the knockout punch.

Indiana
at Illinois

Somehow someway, we need to be at least 3-6, preferably 4-5 (hold serve at home) before the schedule is to our favor.

I think we need to win the next two home games to stabilize the ship because at Michigan and at Illinois are almost certain losses. I know we have confidence against MSU but it was at least perceived to be a lot of Boo. The boys gotta get rest this week and be very pissed off going to WRA this coming Sunday.

I agree completely. In a weird way, I think it would help Ty Berry as well, since I don’t think he thrives with pressure being on him. Perhaps knowing that somebody else is being counted on for scoring will actually enhance his game.

He also has to stay out of foul trouble. And he probably isn't strong enough yet. but he also has an inside game somewhat similar to Martinelli to go with that 3 pt shooting, Lotta versatillity in his game, Gotta hope Berry gets his O game back but at this point Chello is getting to be a descent alternative

At this point the spot he takes is probably Berry cause hard to think of him getting Barnhizer or Martinelli off the the floor. Other possibility is getting some minutes from Leach but gotta imagine they will be few and far between

Is it Chello or Jello or Jelo? Either way he is starting to understand where he needs to be in the defensive end. If he can continue do that, he will play plenty. He was lost on that end of the court to start. Still a half step late and it’s causing cheap fouls. He can be a very good player in a short period of time.

Is Berry going to be in the starting lineup on Sunday?
A lot of talk about Nicholson—> is he really playing that poorly? He has never been a big scorer, but doesn’t take bad shots (as opposed to Hunger), and usually is an excellent defender and passer.

Hey, don't knock Luke - he's shooting a sizzling .067 from 3 (1-15)

He has regressed and he wasn’t starting at a particularly good place.

He combines below average athleticism with bad instincts on defense. He has mastered the arms straight up while leaning in with his chest foul. He would be better off jumping to actually contest shots. He provides no rim protection. He has 1 block and 1 steal this year. That’s really tough to do in the number of minutes he has played.

NU will have to pony up to get a center in the transfer portal if next year’s team will be competitive.

It would take a lot more than a center for next year's team to be competitive. Feels very much like a rebuilding year where we force-feed minutes to the freshmen and sophomore classes with Martinelli as the leader. The development part of being what Collins calls a development program.

I’d love to know the percentage of his fouls that have resulted in ‘and ones’ for the other team. It has to be very high. The one time he decided to foul someone hard, it was a flagrant. The perception that he can stretch the floor with his shooting is misguided. I’m cool with him to play ten minutes of energetic ball with some improved D and better shot selection (mostly layup only).

If Martinelli stays, I would like to be in most games next year. With the portal, our freshman and next year’s class that should be achievable. Not saying tournament team, but between 5 and 10 wins in the conference. The four-star recruit has a college ready frame and he, Martinelli and Angelo could be a pretty good 2, 3 and 4. Add a center and a shooter and we could have a decent team.

Any and all games are must wins and any loss sucks! Fact!

Whatever you want to say about Luke Hunger, at least he ran over Fletcher Loyer like he was blocking on the goal line for the football team.

The "and one" that the refs called against Hunger in the first half demanded that. Loyer drove to the basket, initiated minimal contact and the dumbass ref called a foul on Hunger. I'd say that gets called a foul 10% of the time. Unfortunately, Luke gets a ton of those - and he lets the guy score.
