Fitz had nothing to do with building the defense. He had one A+ hire in Hank, and one F hire in JON.

He also had nothing to do with the offense, apart from his ability to recruit two decent grad transfer QBs and recruiting the run of QBs up though Thorson. His OC's were C- guys at best, and he hired all of them.

Fits was never a defensive coordinator, was he?

He proved a lot of stuff as a player and HC, but he never proved his ability to create a great defense as a full time DC. That isn’t unfair to point out.

If you want to argue to me he isn’t proven to be a schematic master on defense who could call an elite game plan consistently vs the other OC, sure, fine, whatever. But Fitz clearly proved his ability to recruit talent and develop it extremely well on the defensive side of the ball. That was never his problem, he did genuinely incredibly things on that side of the ball.
