I just read an article that NIL will affect the malpractice situation for doctors , who treat or operate on elite athletes or athletes whose parents consider them to be elite ,that are now potentially going to receive NIL payments.

I guess an example would be a 5 star QB ($5million NIL) tears his ACL and meniscus , undergoes surgery but does not return to previous performance level. The parents blame the surgeon, rather than the injury, sue the surgeon and the court has to consider he had a potential income of $5 million/year

NFL team doctors face this problem now but it will now affect doctors/surgeons in almost every community

Why are we explaining this slyly?

I have to imagine this dynamic already exists for both professional athletes and college athletes who think they have big pro futures. Seems like an area with some prettt established legal and insurance infrastructure.

Dr. David McAllister, head team physician at UCLA who has been practicing for 27 years, said the relationship between team doctor and athlete has gone from one built on trust to now being transactional and at times adversarial.

When athletes spent four or five years at the same school, as once was the norm, friendships were formed and the team doctor continued to provide care for the some athletes long after their playing days. Now, McAllister said, many football and basketball players are taking advice from agents and business managers whose priority is the athlete’s earning power, and that puts pressure on team physicians.

Yeah, I can see this aspect of college sports changing pretty dramatically along with the rest.
