Northwestern drops out of the AP Top 25??!!!

NU fell out after the Big Ten Championship game. There is no January 2nd poll anymore, they wait until the day after the CFP final.

Ah. Okay, but Northwestern isn't included in ESPN's new updated (post Bowl Games) Top 25. Were they on that list before the Bowl game?

Looks like a really ridiculous list. I feel dumber for looking at it. But what do you expect out of ESPN? I mean they are owned by Disney so they are into fairy tales. Mich moved up after getting their butt whipped, GA moved up after getting whipped. TX moved down? We are at #37 while WIS and IA are in top 20. Heck, Mich State is rated ahead of us.

I admire people for trying to do good analysis on college football, but it seems like a fool's errand when it comes to NU.

They can't even "predict" games that have already been played!

Perhaps their narrative would be NU didn't "deserve" to win because Utah gave the game away with all their turnovers.

You know, because NU's defense had nothing to do with any of them. /eyeroll.

Do your opinions on that hold when considering the Akron/NU game?

Does S&P account for turnovers and field position?

They do not adequately factor those things in (especially turnovers). For S&P+ it’s really about “explosiveness”, “finishing drives”, and their definition of “efficiency”. Generally speaking, NU’s current style of play will regularly lead to a poor overall S&P plus rating.

Fortunately this has little to zero impact on anything. If you’re a Northwestern fan, best to take Connelly’s metrics with grain of salt (if you chose to pay attention to them at all).

Rankings will be out sometime tomorrow for AP/Coaches, so we'll find out pretty soon.

Expecting somewhere around #19-20 in both polls.

At least we can HOPE that all but 2 of the coaches will have had some time to reflect on it and will vote themselves, instead of having else do the voting for them.
