For those that are into this stuff (like me), here are the current number changes and roster numbers for the early enrollees.

Number Changes

CB Trae Williams #3

SAF Travis Whillock #7

WR Kyric McGowan #8

CB Roderick Campbell #9

CB Alonzo Mayo #10

SS JR Pace #13

WR Jace James #15

WR Berkeley Holman #16

Early Enrollees

RB Isaiah Bowser #25

DB Jeremiah McDonald #27

CB Greg Newsome #29

LB Khalid Jones #44

DE Andrew Leota #53

Questions
** I wonder who gets #21 coming in?

** Also, early candidates for #1?

Can Tommy Doles wear #1 on the O-line? As far as I have read, there is no rule that prohibits an interior offensive lineman from wearing a single digit number. TD has been an active member of the community, leadership groups, leadership council, one of the best spokesmen for the NU team.

Or does Clayton earn it? Five years in the program; solid leader since his RSF year; involves himself heavily in film study and group work; the face of the program (form a player standpoint); AND, he stayed when some argued he could have left (pre-injury)... Would be hard to look past him.

Though I kinda always liked the look of this #1 jersey...

She how it seems wrong for CT to have it. Not that he isn't qualified, but it is a little of an unsung hero thing the way it has been awarded in the past.

That changed a couple of years ago. Walker and Lancaster have been very worthy recipients but were hardly unsung.

How about Hall?

I LOVE Hall... but I am not certain if Hall has some of the "extra" qualities that Thorson or Doles have in terms of community involvement. I say this because I honestly don't know, or they have not been as publicized as the previous two.

Butler is not a bad thought...

In my opinion, #21 should be retired. No player will every match JJ. The warrior never missed a game has almost every record. One of the top 10 college football players of all time. Retire #21

Agreed. It’s like Fitz said, he’s a once in a lifetime player.

On second thought, the program doesn’t really retire the numbers, so much as honors them. The only retired number is 30 for Wheeler.

I think the number 46 should also be honored (or retired) for Matt Hartl. He truly meant what is affectionately known as “the Wildcat Way”.

Given that 7 is currently not an eligible college basketball uniform number, in a way Otto's hoops number is indeed retired.
Otto should be the first statue erected outside of Ryan Field, followed by one for Barnett.

Accomplishments aside, I’m not building a statue for a guy who bailed after one year on a 12-year contract.

Maybe we can use the numbers as recruiting tools? Carry on the traditions of Justin Jackson be the next 21. Recruit players to be, or even be more prolific than, 21. (Not sure Otto's number would mean a whole lot to 17 year olds...at least not as much as JJ)

JJ will have to make some NFL noise for that to work I think.
