Officiating in this game

The future looks good. The young kids played well. We almost beat the refs and PSU.

If I was the coach at NU with historical ref issues, I would spend a few bucks to have six 4K cameras at each game, couple student video editors and a couple sports influencers and humiliate the refs every game with point of emphasis to get refs in the videos. Tag them. Spend to give them public profiles. And I would stay calm and in the box every game.

At let them know, when you stop fvcking me, I’ll stop fvcking you. I make more money and can do this forever. Refs would lash back first then figure it out.

It’s not like B1G has ever cared about ref quality. Need a multi millionaire with some balls. Oh yeah, I would deny any involvement in this campaign but make sure every ref knew I control it.

Heck, might have my unaffiliated grown son or father openly manage it. NCAA can’t control people not under ncaa control. And with ncaa court losses mounting, doubt this would be a hill to defend for them

More likely they would send those videos to head of BIG officials and to head of NCAA officials. Then these guys would get no post season. It is tough on the road and this si one of the reasons why, So many calls went PSU way

That's actually a brilliant idea. Collins should absolutely do that.
Meh, I’ma get even guy. And I’ve spent a few bucks in my life to prove a point.
But hey, maybe simply wallow in the historical and frequent ref disparity. Guess it depends on what makes you tick.

I think so too. I think if resources were thrown at this recurring issue, it would go away forever.

Peacock studio crew (Jordan Cornette and Josh Pastner) just called out our refs big time in the halftime show of the RU/IU game. Said the no call on Nicholson was "egregious" and 100% a foul every time. At least they had the balls to say something unlike Collinsworth and Bardo.

Missed the NU game. Just saw the replay of the screw job by refs at the end. Unreal!!! Can’t believe CC wasn’t more irate.

It was even worse if you saw the whole game, PSU was in the double bonus in the first half in the first 8 minutes. They were in the bonus very quickly in second half too. And we had 2 fouls on Barnhizer, Leach, and 3 on Berry quickly changing complexion of the game early. Luckily our Frosh came in and were not phased (though they had them in foul trouble as well.

Setting aside the insane phantom whistle/stolen bucket and the missed obvious foul at the end, Penn State scored 43% of its point total from free throws. They had 45 FTs awarded. That is egregious.
Don't forget the Goal Tending No Call earlier in the game

In the second half, it took all of four and a half minutes for them to get in the bonus. They were in the double bonus within seven minutes and 15 seconds.

So Penn State was in the double bonus for 25 of the 40 minutes of the game. As I said in another thread, it’s actually pretty remarkable we were that close and had a chance to win it in the closing seconds considering that fact above and the two bad goaltending related calls. Says a lot about the team’s resilience, but there’s only so much you can overcome.

I rarely say this, but the refs really did decide the game with their poor officiating
Me too. It actually bothers my other NU fan friends/family how much I won’t get down on refs for calls and their impact on a game. I have a reputation in the group of being that guy.

But this game truly was decided by the refs. And it’s too bad, cause it could have been a great game without them stealing the show with so many one-sided bad calls.

made mistake of rewatching the play-

Let’s forget the ridiculous no call on the REAL goaltend earlier.

Bit on the final play-

They messed up the play by calling a goaltend when they didn’t see one.

On the review-
BB had already released the ball when the whistle blew.
They also missed #14 hitting the rim with his arm which should have been a goaltend.

Refs have not really been our friends this year, They have decided more than one game against us. at the end of games

So they missed that call several different ways.

I thought that at first as well, but if Leach's shot was blocked (as they called after the review), is it still possible for #14 to goal tend?

Not trying to be contrarian, but honestly don't know the correct call there. I think it might be a loose ball after the blocked shot?

I think the rule is if the ball is in the air in the cylinder any touching of the rim is auto goal tending.

Kenpom helpfully tracks referees, so I was able to see that one of tonight's referees, Earl Walton, is in his 2nd year doing Big 10 games with regularity. Last year, we went 12-8 in conference, but just 2-4 in games where he was one of the refs, including our home OT win over Purdue where Edey got to shoot a then-career high 20 FTs. He was also one of the refs in the Chicago State game that we lost, along with our NCAA tourney game against UCLA the year before.

One of the other refs, Will Howard, reffed his first-ever Big 10 game tonight.

The third ref was Paul Szelc, who is a longtime Big 10 ref, and nothing really jumped out at me from his previous NU games.

Obviously I have no way to know which ref called which fouls, but if I'm Collins I'd focus on making sure Walton doesn't ref our games the rest of the year.

I had thought that if they did wave off the goal tend it would still be a score. But if the whistle blew before it left BBs hand. And did it matter than BB was in continuation and was in the air the whole time. Important to know when the whistle actually blew and if there can be any continuation as there is for a foul

Were those Walton losses all during away games? I mean we were 2 and 8 on the road, correct? Not sure the 2-4 means as much if they were all road games.

If you watch and listen to the replay looks like about 6.1 secs left when the whistle blows, the ball is out of Barnhizers hand already.

I can tell you, at 6.7 seconds, barnhizer didn’t even have the ball yet. So I’m not sure how they came up with any of those numerous decisions by watching that replay.

If so the basket should have scored regardless of goaltend. In the air just like a shot at the buzzer
