It's too bad. We've heard most of the names on his new list. But there's St. Louis and Missouri scumming it up again and coming out of nowhere.

This is really brutal. Something must've hit a snag between THT and NU. Some of these schools came out of nowhere and we're still off the list.

I'm guessing we stopped recruiting him...we gave him some sort of deadline and he wasn't interested. Kudos to the staff for allocating their resources to realistic student-athletes that are sincerely interested in NU. Also, a final 13 is pretty much a joke in my book. Narrow it down to 5-6 and move on.

Disappointing. Have to wonder if the writing has been on the wall for a few weeks now, which (along with Battin's lack of interest) led to Ryan Young's offer and commitment.

As discussed in other threads, CCC will be just fine and likely will land Kopp or Bey.

Still, can't help but feel this is a missed opportunity to change the relationship between NU basketball and the Chicago high school scene.

Sour grapes post #1...

I think Chicago HS basketball is about as corrupt as D.C. politics. I have no evidence of this whatsoever, but feel it anyways.

I'm concerned about the perception of NU at city schools in Chicago. Privileged, snooty, nerdy, etc. Perhaps some of it is true. But it's also an amazing place/experience/springboard with rapidly improving athletics and a fan base somewhat keeping up.

I wonder how much of an impact Baldwin's departure had on THT's recruitment, and also what this means for NU's chances with the up and coming Baldwin.

Disappointing. If I had to put money on any recruit commiting to NU 6 months ago, it would have been THT.

Actually, I didn't think your post was sour grapes at all. You raised some good points.

Vic law is from a school in Chicago which is probably 5 minutes away from Simeon

+1

I have no idea what a "Final 13" accomplishes. It's not as if he can take official visits to all those schools anyway. What's the point? And do we really believe if another blue blood came calling, he wouldn't consider them?

How silly. Slick video, though, I guess. Totally misread THT. Look forward to hearing about Kopp and Bey next month.

Yeah, nothing worse than a 17 year old kid having fun with his recruitment.

We're in great shape. Still going to be a great class. And yes, some of those schools suddenly appearing out of nowhere does make one wonder...

There's something a little strange about this recruitment. The fact that NU is not in the top 13 for this kid is kind of telling... I won't say any more. Best luck to him except if he plays against us.

I think with coach moving up to Cheeseland this became far less likely and as is mentioned up thread, the two sides most certainly parted ways some time ago a la Ayo.

But good luck to him. He has a build that could make him an NBA guard if the quickness and shooting are there.

And I've got to say, some kids are ok living a handful of miles from their parents during college. Some see the opportunity to put distance away from home as a real benefit.

I'm not going to watch a video to find out who made his medium-long list. But if St. Louis is an option...really?

I wonder what Bob Hambric would think about the video.

Since NU went after him pretty hard for quite a while and for all that finished behind St. Louis in making his final 13 list, I'm not sure how much of an opportunity it was. Fine for him, and NU moves on.

I'm pretty confident the two sides parted ways long before his final 13 list.

Joe Henricksen, the Sun Times prep hoops reporter, covered THT's July evaluation period pretty closely and bylined a couple major articles. Back in July NU was omitted from Henricksen's articles. At the time I thought, eh NU bias. But Henricksen likely saw and knew that, upon closer examination, the fit was not good for either side. And he knew the two sides weren't courting each other with the same energy as the winter.

I could be wrong, but really don't think so.

THT hasn't made his final choice yet so I hope that from his final list he picks one of the better academic schools. I don't know what those schools are because I didn't watch the video, but I'm sure in the field there are a couple that stand out.

Illinois, MSU, Georgia tech, FSU, Kansas, St. Louis, Dayton, Missouri, Iowa state, Ohio state, Xavier, Georgetown, Michigan

OK, do YOU think Chicago high school basketball recruiting is clean?
Probably as clean as what takes place in the Chicago Catholic League and has for many years. Surrounding suburbs are also getting in, big time, on the transfer action.

It became clear weeks ago that TNT wasn't a fit at NU for a variety of reasons. I can tell you the HC loves Kopp who they consider an elite shooter and good fit at NU.
Think he would fit just fine and might have even gotten starters minutes in his freshman year.

No issue with a high school player wanting to attend another fine university or enjoying millionaire coaches chasing after him. My only issue is he used the #ItsTime hashtag. That was ours during March Madness!

So he was in our final 13 but not our final 5 or 6.

LOL - a message board post from 2 years ago that claims Michigan is just so squeaky clean Chicago kids don't bother with them. Isn't Charles Matthews on UM, isn't UM in THT's final 13?
Things happen in two years, Maybe JB and Mich are less clean than they were.

Oh well. I suspect THT has always had his eyes firmly fixed on the NBA. I think he would like to be a one or two and done player for someone and probably will be if he picks the right situation. I wish it would have been with us because he is a terrific player but agree that both NU and THT had moved on long before he issued his copious list. CCC's program is really not structured yet for one or two and done players and that might well have been another reason for the mutual falling out. So come on CCC, go close the deal on Kopp or Bey and we will rightfully call it a great year.

I think this is a VAST overstatement of THT's abilities. Look, I'd have liked him to don the Purple as well, but he is not even close to the one-and-done talent level at this stage of his career. There are maybe 5 - 15 one-and-done players each year, and only about 65 TOTAL NBA players drafted each year, with more and more coming from International leagues. THT is currently ranked around 100th in the country for just his class. He is far from a 5-star guy. I don't care what school he chooses, his chances for the NBA are limited. I hope he studies his ass off and prepares himself for the life after basketball, regardless of which school he ultimately decides to attend.

Again, I like THT and wish he'd have chosen NU, but let's stay real on just how talented he is. This is not Marvin Bagely III...
