OT: Woodson out

IU’s recent history of hiring Coaches is abysmal. I too don’t have a lot of confidence in IU getting the right Coach and then having patience with that Coach to change the culture.
Happened with our new football coach. We will see if Dolson gets basketball done right. Word is now out that this now his call and Quin Buckner and past players have no say in this. Look for one of these three guys to get the job, Dusty May, Chris Beard or Brad Stevens in no particular order. And NIL is huge at IU. Recruiting in the state of Indiana will change. Word leaking out is things are in place for a relatively quick higher so the transfer portal can be taken advantage of. I would say our football higher ended up being a slam dunk.

Speaking of arrogant, what an arrogant post. Indiana basketball hasn’t been relevant for years. Collins has all he needs as far as NIL at NU. But you want to know if he would be interested even though he wouldn’t be one of your top choices? When are Indiana people going to realize that the job isn’t what it used to be? 18-22 year old’s of today don’t even know what Indiana as a powerhouse looks like.
You are right, although we are one of only , I think, four Big ten teams to play in final four from what, 1999. I do not think NU has ever even sniffed a final four no less even make the round of 16. Your NIL not close to IU’s. If, and only saying if, we land one of three being talked about a lot, IU relevant in a hurry.

Interesting names. IU should have hired Pitino last time around. He is perfect for you, like Cig, he only cares about winning. He could legally use the money to build a contender quickly. He also could stand up to the goofy fanbase where Woody didn’t have the resume. He wins I googled it. He is old, but so is Cig.

I not sure why Dusty May would leave Michigan after one year, despite his ties to the state. Beard, is probably the most likely, but I wouldn’t be shaking in my boots ( unless I was his fiancée) if he took the job. He’ll do fine but not a slam dunk. Stevens would be a HR hire. However, not sure why he takes the job, when he is a GM of the NBA champions. Dealing with recruiting, NIL, transfer portal and especially the fan base that will turn on him at the slightest dip in performance. No thanks. Stevens seems to care about more than winning, so might not be a good fit. Indiana might not be the destination Job you all think it is.

May did not say no yesterday when he had multiple chances to say no in his postgamer. He graduated from IU. Stevens, according different solid sources has been talking with IU, and this time he has not said no , in an adamant manner. And Beard, that whole thing went away. Not sure if it really happened or not, but always innocent until proven guilty and he had ties to coach Knight. And with the right coach, IU will get back to not only bringing in top portal talent, but will again get the best of Indiana high school kids.

See you were doing fine, bringing some new info to the board, until you decided to attack NU. Now everything you say just comes across as the average delusional hoosier, we are God’s gift to basketball, fan.

Only stating facts.

It’s a fact IU will become relevant in a hurry if they hire one of those 3? We’ve been hearing that for over 20 years. You also claim to know about NU and NIL when you really have no clue about it.

It’s “hire” you moron.

You realize you’re going to end up “higher”-ing Shaka Smart or Kim English, right?

I think we're in agreement that if IU can hire a basketball coach that can get the team to an undefeated non-conference record and a 16-4 B1G conference record in his first season - the fan base will find him barely acceptable.

But if, like football, he then loses in the first round of the NCAA tournament, they'll probably start screaming about how he's a loser on the hot seat next season. Because IU fans be craycray.

Now on version 4.0 this place has Collins climbing on the IU wish list

Interesting. I read in the local paper (Daily Herald) today in O’Donnell’s column that there is some “back channel” gossip that Collins is in demand for some high profile programs. He’s going to be 51 in April and the thought was he can’t win at NU but could contend for it all at a more established program.

I don’t see it happening, but I do believe he is in demand despite what we read on this board by some.

I would hope this is posturing for contract negotiations, but Jackson needs to extend him very soon or his honeymoon will be over.

The ACC this year should tell you everything. There are no guarantees even when a 20 win North Carolina is first four out as of now.

If I’m a coach, all I would want today is the resources to compete. It’s up to me to coach and to exceed expectations and win. And then security for my family and coaches.

Northwestern offers all that today. Winning at Northwestern means security for life.

Look, Indiana has resources and pedigree and has had players that everyone wants come play there but they have not come close to the mountain top in a very long time.

Why is Purdue winning when you’d think they have nothing to offer. West Lafayette ???? Two final fours in school history.

What happens when Izzo retires at Michigan State.

Doesn’t Papa Doug live in the Chicagoland area?

Give Collin’s the money. Security and most importantly resources.

Did anyone watch this team the past month.

Mullins who couldn’t get off the bench last year has grown immensely.

A point guard who was supposed to redshirt and some on this board wanted him to leave is starting and contributing.

We play defense like it shouldn’t be possible. Guards guarding 6’10 scorers and holding their own.

Like we said about fitz years ago and hope still happens one day. Build a statue.

For CCC. retire one day with your name on the court. In the area you grew up.

Yes, that is what should happen.

Well done!

Just a couple additions to the thread ...

a) The one that scares me. Once the youngest kid graduates from college, I think all bets are off. I'd bet "what's next" starts creeping into a few conversations.

b) I'm hoping CC feels an obligation to this pretty important class.

c) If you remember correctly, Collins (or probably more accurately a representative and Phillips) was pretty good at quietly floating his name around the Chicago media prior to his hiring at NU. I hope the recent rumors aren't a similar move.

d) Did you hear Collins in the post game after Maryland? I thought he was GUSHING about Maryland. My first thought was that I'm glad it doesn't seem that job will be open for awhile. I think that might be Collins's perfect ACC-B10 mix.

e) Just to correct something above, I think I've heard Doug Collins has a place here, but he spends most of his time in Arizona.

I’m nervous about CC leaving. Don’t think it’s going to happen but would be a devastating move. What would such a timeline look like? Assuming they will be in a postseason tournament? Mark Jackson should be all over this, no? Has to be better than Gragg? Ok I’m done rambling.

After watching the entire post-game news conference, I wouldn’t be surprised if he left. He called out the league, from bad refs to lousy hotels, in a frank manner.

He was clearly fed up and venting.

If he thinks that the deck will always be stacked against NU and him, regardless of the quality of the team, he might just cry uncle and look for a blue blood school where his team consistently gets the calls and better treatment.

CC will not leave NU. He has a great core of players returning and one of NU’s best incoming classes. Also his venting is a good sign that he is supporting his players. Finally the refs did not favor the Gophers so maybe we are getting some respect. We will see if that is true today

CC will not leave NU
I hope you are right.

He has a great core of players returning
He has a potential POTY and a promising freshman. Everyone else is unproven or a role player. We lose 4 starters, including 3 multi year starters. From a 7-13 team.

I think CCC will squeeze out every microliter of juice, but I do worry unless the portal rescues NU
