Looking at the B1G schedule, we’ve got 5 out of 7 Rivalry games. The outliers are Rutgers-PSU and MSU-Maryland.

Given PSU-MSU is a trophy game, I wonder why it doesn’t move to Thanksgiving weekend as well. Would seem to make sense.

Pretty cool to see Fox and ESPN both in Big Ten country this week. (Of course, they’re both just promoting their properties.)

Maryland views PSU as their rival. Not so much for PSU. I suspect when the Big Ten expanded PSU did not want Maryland as part of rivalry week for recruiting purposes. PSU has a very big footprint in Maryland/DC/Virginia recruiting.

PSU also dominates Jersey recruiting.

Agreed. The Iron Bowl makes OSU-UM look like a family spat.

The OSU Michigan rivalry has always been misunderstood by fans and media. Before the trend towards more national recruiting the past 15-20 years, part of what made the rivalry so strong is that they were so much a like. The programs recruited the same players. They played the same way. Add that when Michigan is often at it’s best, it’s because many of the team’s stars are Ohio players, so many had played against or with each other in their home towns.

Even during the 10 year war, the intensity between Bo and Woody, wasn’t a result of hatred or jealousy, but of a father who was upset because his favorite son decided to work for the competition instead of the family business.

Several OSU players have said on interviews years later that it was the hardest hitting, but cleanest game they would play all year. You see fights, but rarely cheap shots,

So Ubercat at is correct, it is more of a family spat.
