Question about Fire Drill FGs

So if the defensive is given as much time as necessary to sub after the offensive has…how does that work with fire drill FGs, where the offense is rushing out the fg unit to kick as time expires. Can’t the defense just run their own subs and empty the clock every single time?

Yes.
 
Why wouldn’t defensive coaches do this all the time then? Because it’s a judgment call of the officials if they will allow time for the substitution, hold the play clock, or let the offense put the ball in play and you might risk not having the defense ready?

They’re starting to. A lot.

Trying to think of the last time I've seen one of those.
