Inwas disappointed that BTN gave us nothing whatsoever on some of the other big questions for the Cats, such as:

- what WRs looked good in practice? Last year they went into that position group a lot. This year, nothing. Who is stepping up? Any surprises?

- what is the situation at DE? This position is far from settled given the unknown status of Wash. How do the frosh look and could they contribute? Any surprises?

- the talked about Superback, but do. we have any depth or another contributor besides GD?

I was really disappointed in the effort of the BTN crew yesterday. Felt like they were more interested in their tour being over than they were in doing any detailed scouting. Hard thumbs down.

I was disappointed in the show as well. The approach seems to be to provide half coverage from the practice then back to the studio for discussions half on the team being visited and half on other schools. I guess to keep people not particularly interested in the school tuned in. Mostly interviewing coaches and key players that don't provide much info. Plus, as you say, DiNardo seemed a little disconnected. My sense is he isn't a big fan of Fitz' approach to coaching. He is kind of the big guy wins over the little guy style analyst - pro style represents real football. Given that the powerhouse schools drive the BTN fan base, understandable.

Through social media we saw Jalen Brown stood out at practice yesterday.

I can't answer all of those, but some guesses...
- WR I'm getting the impression Nagel and Brown will be starters, with a mix and match of the others beyond that- Macan Wilson, Fessler, Skowronek, 1-2 freshmen. I hope we use Dickerson more frequently this year he is good.
- DE gathering from a couple sources it seems that Gaziano has mostly secured a starting spot on one side. The other one is up for grabs and / or a rotation situationally. Some of the RS Fr and maybe even true Fr will see the field. I'm very worried about our DEs against Wisconsin's OL on 9/30... I don't think our O has enough firepower to beat them if our D is struggling to stop the running game. Good thing at least that we have the two DT spots pretty well locked down with Lancaster and Thompson.

Based on the BTN footage yesterday, it appears that Wyatt is taking a bunch of snaps at DE opposite Gaziano. This is basically a repeat of the CJ Robbins situation, where Wyatt should be able to stand up against the run very well but might not have the same pass rush threat. The brothers Miller could also provide some decent size/strength on the edge, but might not have the same pass rush "pop." Gooden seems like the guy most likely to fill the situational pass rusher role.

The theory is that the size of guys like Wyatt and the Millers would help hold the LOS against downhill running teams like Wisconsin and Nebraska... question is whether it will actually work.

Yeah that seems like a logical approach. Then we can get some of the other young / faster guys in there in pass rush situations a la the Ifeadi role. Like maybe Goens Gooden or Brown.

DE is my next biggest area of concern after the OL, which has apparently been censored as a topic. Third would be finding a breakout WR (and depth) to replace Carr's production, then 4th the MLB spot, though we keep hearing good things about the competition there so somewhat less concerned.

Any chance we see Earnest Brown play the pass rush specialist role as a true freshman, perhaps even ahead of Gooden? Or is he just not big enough yet? If he's can create havoc on third downs, with the secondary we have, you have to burn the shirt, I'd think.

He could play this year but I doubt he'll be more effective than Gooden this year. People are sleeping on Gooden. He had really good tape in HS and has done nothing but get bigger and faster since arriving at NU. I have no concerns whatsoever about the DL barring injuries to Lancaster and Thompson.

No clue, but I thought it somewhat interesting that the only true freshman DL really talked up during the BTN coverage was Samdup Miller. Some on these boards had speculated that he might be the most likely DL to burn his shirt (supported further by his early arrival on campus and participation in spring ball), but the idea seemed to be confirmed.

I am glad to hear this. I recall he had a handful of Big Ten offers. At roughly 6'1" and 220 coming in, I thought it would take much longer for him to grow into the DE role. But I haven't seen him personally so I'll take your word for it. Not ideal height but I also recall his speed from his tape so perhaps he can thrive as a pass rusher.

Lots of very good college rushers have played at that height. He hasn't gotten any taller but he is up to 250 which is plenty big enough. The kid just has natural pass rushing instincts.

Lawyer? My wife always says I missed my calling as well.

Don't have the patience for the background research and all the reading in law school. REALLY making myself out to be a real winner here, aren't I?

It seemed like all the training camp reports I saw had less substance to them this year.

What's with the Samdup from people lately? All I ever heard him referred to was "Sam" until this week. Is like "Bennett" Skowronek?
