back at the end of July.

Think about that concept of Northwestern winning 10 games 'again.' If you ever doubted the impact of Pat Fitzgerald at Northwestern, let that idea sink in. Northwestern with back-to-back 10-win seasons and it’s not really surprising. What Pat has accomplished there, how he has everyone bought in, how they’re building palatial facilities for him, it’s just a remarkable achievement.”

From a Big Ten Coach, though we never quite established if it was a head coach. There was some speculation that it might have been one of the longer tenured head coaches. Ferentz and Dantonio came to mind as possibilities. Any musings purely speculative, and perhaps a bit of fun.

I’m still inclined to go with speculation of those two, but after reading Fleck’s postgame remarks I’ll add him to the list of suspects.

What is often forgotten in the twenty-three year turn around, and particularly in the Fitz era, is that our standards have gone up. It is one thing to turn around a program by strategically lowering standards or by keeping players on academic eligibility life support. It is another thing to accept young men who have a desire to succeed beyond the playing field. This is the most remarkable thing about the program. We win and prepare people to succeed after football.
