I got the message today "Would you like to spread out the payment of your season ticket? Take advantage of a seven (7) month payment plan by clicking HERE to renew your season tickets today!"

Is this normal? Do they send this out to people when they don't renew after a while. I am still on the face about renewing (leaning towards not). If this is not normal, how far down are sales this year?

The tickets are expensive, and if you buy them and sell the games you can't go to, people basically call you a traitor because they are likely going to opposing fans. I am thinking of just buying single games.

1). Tickets are expensive.

2) Ticket sales are slow.
GEC,

Tickets per se are cheap: $150.00 per seat for five games in the north end zone. It’s the “$350.00” per seat contribution that makes it $100.00 per game.

I’d guess that the “contribution” for seats in the new stadium will start at $500.00 per, and rise with the yard marker:

$1000.00- $1500.00 extra for each 40-50 yard line seat?

They do that we’ll sell 1000 season tickets. It will be a totally empty stadium.

The question is do they care. Talked to another long time season ticket holder tonight that is thinking not renewing for this year as they jacked his prices pretty significantly to about $1300 each and the people he was in with were bailing after the price increase this year. Hard to say it but suddenly the Wrigley games are a better value than STs

I’ve not been an NU season ticket holder in many years, but did receive the very long questionnaire they sent out whenever that was, probably 3 years ago now. It was basically asking “how much are you willing to shell out for tickets with all these great amenities vs only limited amenities?” I remember at the time as I read on Re the ticket prices + fees + contributions, my eyes slowly widening, saying to myself “are these guys nuts?!?!”
Then telling my wife “after reading this, we’ll stick to buying 1 or 2 games/year.”

They sent something similar prior to the W-R redo and some of the prices they were talking about were absurd. Lo and behold when all was said and done W-R offers some amazing seats that don't require any donation. I'm sure it will be the same at RF.

In a previous post, I estimated that about 25% of the new Ryan seats will be in the end zone. They may be the seats without required seat donations but will be terrible viewing locations.
NU has the smallest alumni base and does not generate local or state fans like the other B1G schools. Structuring our season tickets like the other B1G schools is foolhardy.
I would grandfather current and previous ST holders to a reasonable per season rate to insure NU fans fill the stadium. Optional donations could allow entry to areas of upscale amenities.
To make it difficult for these preferred ST holders to sell their tickets, I would use printed tickets and eliminate digital tickets. The tickets could still be dumped but not easily

It's entirely Ryan's call on this and what you suggest has no chance.

They've offered payment plans in the past, but I don't recall them ever being promoted in an email like this. It certainly wouldn't be a surprise if renewals are poor considering the price increase.

I'm in the North End Zone and my seats are $100 per seat per game. This is more than double what I paid for good (not great) sideline seats the last year at RF. It's also a massive overpay for most of the games on next season's Evanston schedule. I respect the challenge of pricing NU tickets, where demand is wildly different based on the opponent, but this approach feels maybe penny wise and definitely pound foolish. I vented to my ticket rep and the response was basically, 'Totally understand if you want take a year off, but you can come back for the new RF.' What? Once people get out of the habit of going to games it's a lot harder to get them back. And we can't even fill a 12k stadium now.

My parents have had season tickets for almost thirty-five years, so starting pre-Rose Bowl. We grew up near the stadium and going to games provided many great memories growing up. My brothers have moved away, but NU football continues to bring us all together as every Saturday the family text thread is filled commentary about the game. My parents looked at renewal and said enough is enough and they're out. I feel like when you're pushing people like that away you need to reassess your priorities.

Not sure how printed tickets would help. Those can be handed off multiple times with no control. I honestly don't know the answer to this as I always use the app. Do they accept paper screen shots of the ticket QR code? Eliminating this option would help. If everything is strictly through a e-ticket NU would get tracking information on that ticket's history. They would know if you sent it to SeatGeek or Stub-Hub.

I am going to wait and see the price model for the new stadium, I feel they will have "affordable" options. I have said before, I am not an alum but grew up in the area and was an NU fan in a sea of ND fans (my dad got us hooked). I think NU has some real challenges to fill the stadium with purple, some historic and some based on recent events (Fitz situation, terrible teams, Gragg, Schill, etc.). I will be interested in how the new AD addresses (if) and how he rebuilds NU fan engagement that was scuttled with the past administration.

Yes, the point is “something” has to be different because it sucks going to the games.

I am technologically challenged but even I was able to forward tickets to Uber for distribution to his friends. I used to mail the tickets, sometimes at the last minute , worrying about whether they would get there in time. It is much more difficult to mail tickets and then hope to get someone or entity to reimburse you. If you make it easy to transfer tickets then you have to live with the consequences.

There definitely will be “affordable” options. Pat Ryan is a very good man who cares about all NU fans. He’s not going to want to price out your average fan.

I have great tickets at WRA (second level, basically center court) that are $20/each per game. There will be similar tickets at the new RF. Yes, the first level will probably be more expensive than the old RF but the second deck and end zones will be “affordable” for the average fan. I would bet almost anything on it.

People need to contextualize the lakefront stadium priced. It’s a 12,000 seat temp stadium. Of course they are going to raise prices to offset the lack of volume issue. Look at the Tampa Bay Rays and Sacramento (Las Vegas?) Athletics situations this upcoming MLB season. Same deal. Will adjust after this coming season.

I agree. I don't get upset when other fans fill out stadium. I prefer more NU fans but that just won't happen unless the team is very good. Without the other fans the stadium would be maybe half full. That does not help anyone.

No it doesn’t suck. What are you talking about? The admin did a very good job with the logistics at the lakefront stadium. And it was widely praised by NU and non-NU fans alike.
Gimme a break. It sucks, because you are sandwiched between a bunch of drunk knuckleheads from the opposition muttering “ go to the library nerd” and when you shut them up, 10 hillbillies behind them want to fight you for cheering for the HOME team. Then their screeching wife and college age daughters start in with the insults. This is in the STH section! Has nothing to do with the lakeside stadium, but everything to do with their inability to make it a positive game day experience for OUR fans.

THis is a longstanding and totally normal payment plan offered by pro sports for season ticket holders that NU is just implementing years and years behind it being commonplace in the industry, it's not some conspiracy.

Even the Bears offer a payment plan and they're a team that wouldn't even accept credit cards until around 10 years ago lol.
