when I renewed my football tix today I asked the simple question. Which is right the number. 7500 teddy wrote last year in the trib. Or 6500 or 6800 that people on here were citing in the Evanston docs.

It's in between 6800-7500. More than 7000. Final number won't be known until September. And those who thought the seating in the boxes weren't counted in the city docs...you are probably correct.

Glad we got this straightened out! Now we can put that stadium size topic to bed for good, right?

I dont think the ticket guy knows. As Felis pointed out, its 6,800. Thats what the document said and it was pointed out that it was a direct result of parking calculations.
Ticket reps arent the authority on this.

Felis was right again.

Guess we'll really know come September but don't hold your breath.
You didn't take the bet, so I have nothing to hold my breath about. Though, in the end, you'll still be wrong and that'll be reward enough.

So, an official document prepared by people involved with the project and submitted to the C. of Ev. for approval says 6,800.
A ticket seller verbally says 7000+.
Whom to believe????
Tough question, right?

There is zero reasons to believe that those who would seat in the boxes (if any) , or who would stand in any SRO area (if any) would not be considered in the parking regulation calculations.

The regulation assumes that for every ten in attendance one parking spot is needed. Why on earth would they not count those sitting in box-areas or standing (if any)? In principle, the percentage of them that arrive in private cars (and hence need parking) should be roughly the same as for the general group!

Dr Jim Phillips was interviewed live during the NU spring practice, and stated that the capacity at the new W-R will be a little over 7,000

You just hate to admit when felis is right. In this case he has supporting first hand information that has backed up his previous comments.
Furthermore, i counted all the seats in the drawing of the arena. Literally, counted heads included in the picture. If one does that, it is impossible to come up with a number greater than 5,000 unless the picture is a fake representation. The only assumption i made was the blocked perspective behind the viewer. I compared the official drawing, released with the announcement and the official drawing in the permit docs. Both pics were within 1% accurate of eachother with the same amount of fans in each row. That was interesting and i encourage you to count the heads in the sections as well.

If you do so, then you will have additional information to support our dear felis. The headcount reveals an arena seating of 5,000 seats plus it appears that there is additional space to horseshoe in 1,500 standing room. With the official documents and the visual headcount, we can now confirm 6,800 seating capacity.

A simple apology to felis would be nice.

Good work!
Also, if one remembers that bleachers will be replaced with individual seats while keeping the SAME footprint, it is hardly surprising that capacity be significantly reduced. In fact, a reduction in capacity from just over 8100 to 6,800 sounds small, since individual seats will accommodate far fewer attendees than the bleachers they will replace.

The breakdown is :
Lower level approx 1450 baseline seating. 500 behind the basket

Mid level (behind basket): 900

Upper level baseline and all seats parallel to the floor: 2500

Upper level 3rd tier (behind basket); 350

Ttl: 5,700

Metrics used: rounded up and gave all benefits to a higher number. These figures do NOT include the Loge seating which is made very clear in the pic. Appears to be around 20 Loges. I didnt include these premium seats as its impossible to know how many people will be allowed in a Loge. Also this did not include standing room only. Actual general seating of 5,700 would make sense if Loge seating is another 500.

Again, i used the most liberal counting methods. There simply is no way to come up with 7,000 legit seats unless the seating includes standing room only. The only unknown aspect of the math is the 2nd level on the south end which appears to be 5 suites, according to documents. I doubt each suite has more then 25 occupants though.

The research would seem to suggest that Phillips comments on BTN of 7,000 attendance is in line with the 6,800 on the documents. The pictures also confirm. And i dont think Phillips was being literal. He wouldnt have said there are 6873 seats. He generalised as confirmed on all docs and pictures.

Anyone who still claims the seating will be 7,500-11,000 is just trolling.

Good Lord, sounds as if you have too much time on your hands.

This site is amusing. So the big gripe and battle lines on this board is seating capacity? I find this humorous and it reminds me of the US Congress. The battle line is that one is either for a smaller arena or for a larger arena, then the fights begin. LOL.

I used to get wrapped up in some of this crap, and I hope I don't again. Some of you need to step away from this board for 6 months then you might be able to appreciate the program better as well as the complete community.

As far as the arena capacity, I'll email someone and find out. If he responds specifically, I'll let you know without mentioning the source. But he would definitely know.

I'm really pumped about the new arena. I never would have guessed it would be here in 2018. Wow! Pretty awesome stuff regardless of seating capacity.

Go Cats!

Thought it had be reported that the student sections would still be of the bleacher variety.

Could be, and it'd make sense. Still, a lot of bleachers replaced with individual seats. To prevent substantial capacity reduction they needed a new building. With $110MM and the necessary land they were in far better shape to get it done than DP ever was.

Students shouldn't sit anyways. Seats would just get in the way, get broken, or cause injury.

You do know that this is not the picture in the W-R documents.

You do know that this is not the picture in the W-R documents.
My assessment and tabulation is conditioned solely on the doc which seems consistent with the visual. And the visual is consistent with the official visual in the plan documents. I realize that visuals are not authoritative, like the 6,800 number, but using the official visual and the media release visual allow us to see if there is any credibility to those suggesting there will be 7,500-11,000 seats. And after reviewing the 2 different visuals, it is clear that general seating areas will have approx 5,700 seats, and approx 6,800 with the loges, standing room only, and other undefined areas. It is simply inconsistent with what is given to suggest, with a straight face, that the attendance will be 10,000 after 2,000 standing room only seatings are imputed.

Admittedly, a few things could change.
NU could sign additional agreements which loosen up any seating restrictions. And configurations may need to change depending on demand for loges or other seating. Im assuming the City of Evanston to be friendly, thus any additional permits or ammendments shouldnt cause any delay.
DP will have the best of both worlds while Northwestern is limited to an old building that was an expensive refurbish.

I have an impeccable source that has confirmed that the new W-R will seat between 10 and 12,000. Let's stop the speculation

Is someone seriously doing a headcount of an artist's rendering of the new arena in action as a basis to validate the numbers? By all means, this should settle everything once and for all.

The number, 6,800, used by the city officer to verify that the parking rule was satisfied is the strongest piece of evidence so far. But it doesn't hurt if other evidence is consistent with that.
