As a semi-humorous side note, is the blue team the most incompetent defensive team yo've ever seen?
In a single play, they manage to leave not 1, not 2, not 3, BUT FOUR NU players EXTRA WIDE OPEN!!!!!
Basically the entire NU team is wide open (just about) with the defenders clustered in a small area around the basket! Defend like that, and any minimally decent shooting team will destroy you taking wide-open long/mid range shots!!!

I consulted an astrologer who said it would seat 6,998 fans. That is more recent than the comments from the AD so I think we should trust it more. And it is now on the internet so it must be true

Interesting video. It seems clear that they intend to keep the outer shell, and remove everything under it.

Sounds moderately sensible, until you realize that keeping the old outter shell does NOT save any significant amount of money. Yet it imposes constraints that don't have to be there.

The cost of the DePaul facility complete PROVES that what they are doing makes no sense!! NU has far more cash in hand AND payed-for land that De Paul had. Yet DP is getting an 100% new 10,000-seat arena from the ground up, and NU a small arena constrained by an old outer shell that saves no money.

As a consequence NU will be stuck with an unnecessary small arena inside an old shell for decades to come!

HUGE SHAME!!!!!

The fact that they are keeping the shell is not news (except to you). If you look at the plans submitted to Evanston, they will retain the North and South facades and replace the Eat and West sides. It will be a beautiful retro palace, with the charm of Wrigley field coupled with modern amenities. Great plan!!!

Except that Wrigley has increased it's capacity along the way. It used to be 36,0000 and is now close to 42,000. that's what upcoming, successful teams do.

I am very happy with a smaller, more intimate arena. Different strokes for different folks.

Be happy. But a 'smaller/intimate arena' can also be made from the ground up, brand new, state of the art, with the money NU has. The cost of the DP arena proves it (just do simple calculations). What they are doing simply makes no sense.

It makes sense to the people writing the big checks......

I hate Wrigley as I've been to many of the new parks and the amenities we lack at Wrigley are a bummer. Cubs are stuck with Wrigley though. I understand some love a historic old place but I absolutely love the new parks. As far as W/R, I love what they are doing and how they are doing it. And I'm almost certain that the official number of seats will be less than 7,000. I think when Dr Phillips said a bit over 7,000 that he included loges and possible SRO. Sold tickets could prolly be around 7,500 is my guess since the concourses are wider and more room for SRO.

Butler went from 15,000 to 10,000 first renovation and 10,000 to 9,100 at Hinkle the most recent renovation. Smaller isn't usually worse if changes are made for the right reason.

Well Wrigley will have lots of the amenities you crave after the re-do is complete y also continue to add to the capacity, W-R? Still some friends and I continue to say it would have worked better if they rebuilt from ground up. W-R? If Collins keeps the Cats in Big Ten and NCAA contention year after year the capacity at W-R will prove to be inadequate. Oh well, guess they can do another re-build, adding 3 or 4 thousand seats or play popular non-conference and many Big Ten games at the UC or Rosemont or the new DePaul arena.

... or charge more for nice things, because "economics."

You guys are using the wrong picture. But whatever. Enjoy recounting. Or just listen to the AD who said just over 7000 and let it go.

I counted in this picture and there are 7,265 seats. Getting to the SRO capacity is hard because people vary in size and how much space they take up, but I think something like another 341 spaces. I'm thinking total capacity of 7,606. Not bad.

The red team plays D a bit better than the blue one. Still, TWO NU players WIDE OPEN, with no defender between they and the basket. A third NU player very lightly guarded (if at all!) on the opposite side of the play.
Do they have a coach????
GRRRRRRRRR....

Yes, I think his name starts with Under and ends with wood.

The red team is Wisconsin. The score is 8-0 in favor of NU. There is 17:03 left on the clock.

I'm proud to say that every "estimate" of the new seating capacity has made me LOL.

With the way they are playing D, it's no wonder NU is up 8-0.

That's no Wisconsin coached team IMO.
