not to contribute to the dour mood here, but he has been awful in pass coverage for the Bears. I was hoping he would break through into a nickel role, but it's not working so far.

A good friend of mine runs the Bears' website, and he told me that the coaches love his special teams ability, but have never been sold on his coverage skills. He's been playing more because of a lack of attractive options than anything else. Guess that really highlights the difference between college ball and the NFL. In some thirty years of watching the 'Cats, I'd put McManis right there with the Rose Bowl corners, Chris Martin and Rodney Ray, for the best cornerbacks we've had. Yet Sherrick is clearly in the lower echelon of NFL corners. Still like to see him playing with the Bears, though.

He is certainly a ST ace, and needs to stay one to remain in the NFL.
