The biggest surprise to me was how few surprises there were:

Expected:

1. The defense was supposed to be strong and they were.
2. Thorson was supposed to be young but very good. Lots of scary throws but solid performance and team leadership.
3. The secondary was supposed to be awesome and they were. Stanford did not have many uncontested throws. Almost none.
4. Anthony Walker = Megabeast. As hoped.

Pleasant surprises:

1. O-Line run blocking. Superior. I am still a little worried about pass blocking.
2. D-Line pass rush. Some excellent pass rushes in the first half. Less so in the second but a nice coverage sack.
3. Linebacker all in all was solid.
4. Speed. Our D looked faster than Stanford's offense along the line. Great pursuit.

I am really pleased with the O Line play. While Stanford did not play well, it is reassuring to see our line control the game against a ranked opponent (even if the ranking was not deserved).

Thought Mertz was solid...Mogus settled down after opening play...North will need to gets those snaps in order. Wouldn't be surprised to see Park back at center when Frazier is health again.
