"But it did reap the admiration of Collins, who often referred to his forward as his team's glue guy, as his team's heart-and-soul."

Ok, whatever. Red herring. Glades - dare you to answer, who did you see as your starting five in August and how many minutes where you expecting from the heart and soul? I'll hang up and listen to you dodge and weave.

Premature Bob at it again.

1) http://www.northbynorthwestern.com/story/in-fifth-year-grandfather-sanjay-lumpkin-anchors-w/

Read Collins' quote before the year. It is clear that Collins loves his play as the glue guy and leader of the team. Glue guy means that he is willing to do the little things that it takes to win games that might not always show up in the stat sheet such as setting screens, diving on the floor and most importantly guarding the other team's best player (which will be key when NU plays Jok - Iowa, Malcolm Hill - Illinois, Zak Irvin - UM, OG and Blackmon - IU, Amir Coffey - Minny and Shep Garner - PSU) and holding that player below their ppg average. For Lumpkin, he has filled in the voids very well in the absence of Flazon and Pardon and taken advantage of the opportunity of increased mpg (28.2 mpg).

The undisputed fact is that he has been named captain of the team for the past two seasons. That is a good indication of his importance on and off the floor. With Falzon's absence, Lumpkins' minutes have increased to 28.2 mpg and with Pardon's absence his rpg have increased to 7.5 mpg. My projections before the year were assuming that Falzon and Pardon were healthy which they have not been, so those projections are moot or meaningless. Hopefully, you can understand this post.

2) Since you are still confused about minutes and who is the backup ball handler on the team, let's try facts once again.

McIntosh averages 33.3 mpg and Lindsey averages 30.5 mpg. That means that 6.7 mpg need to be filled by someone else at PG and 9.5 mpg need to be filled in by someone else. Who has filled in the role as the primary backup PG and SG? I know, you have not figured that out yet. But let me help you since you need help in almost all of your opinions. It is Isiah Brown, who is averaging 16.9 mpg so that means he is playing both the backup PG and backup SG. Ash is a bit player, who has not played in 5 games due to DNP-CD (that means did not play - coaches' decision). He fills in for a minute at the end of the first half and a minute, here in there, in the second half.

Wrassler - why did you like this? He is dogging your man Ash! You should be incensed, motivated, hammering the board about the under utilized and uber important Ash. Dude - what do you stand for? You confuse me.

Then why not post one. I think we have long established that unless you can cite your own authority, the gimmick of sending others to chase wild goose is never going to happen. If I want to cite check others, I'll go back to law review. At least those kids will provide a direct citation.

Do you wish for me to post ones other than the ones that have been posted here? There are many others....

Yes, any not citing CCC coach speak. And Mike, in August, who was in your starting five? Any what kind of minutes did you foresee for Lump?

Why does it matter?

Well, the whole point of this thread has been that I didn't expect lump to start or contribute this much before all the injuries. But, since you all have attacked me for that line of thinking, suggesting he was lined up to start from day one in place of.... Well, you want to attack, put your money where your mouth is...or be another glades pot shotter without any substance credibility. Especially considering your only memorable contribution was turning every thread into a brawl with doc.

I'm confused, Glades stated that Collins stated in several interviews that Sanjay was the "heart and soul" of the team, you asked for proof of those interviews, and several articles were provided. Now you want articles that DON"T cite the interviews?

My starting five coming in were BMac, Law, Lindsey, Pardon, and Sanjay. I foresaw lots of minutes for Lumpkin based on Collins comments, his past practice, and the fact that he seems to genuinely like Sanjay from everything we know.

Yup, of course you did. Maybe next year you might impress us by making this prediction as a prediction.

Wasn't rocket science. Who was going to start in place of those 5 players?

Just about every person here felt Falzon would start and RI would get heavy minutes thereby leaving little for Lump except special D assignments late game, foul outs and injuries. Apparently, you were the only one the foresaw Lump starting and playing heavy regardless. It's just a shame you didn't post the same before the injuries.

I never expect a freshman to start and I foresaw lumpkin starting just didn't want to post it because of all the negative views about how bad his offense was. Granted I didn't foresee this kinda improvement whatsoever his passing looks much better and I love his backdoor cuts. And also falson I thought would have the role tap does now I fully expected tap to be playing the same about of min ash is rn and I think we all knew Lindsey had lots of potential but wow has he turned it on this year it's exciting. Go cats!

Cats took up judo in off-season workouts. Interesting to se Tap pin the heart and soul near the end of this video clip....

Falzon would have been a sophomore.

I believe I had you on Ignore back then, XBob, so forgive me if I did not participate in thread at the time, but I have always been a huge supporter of Sanjay,, so would have most certainly disagreed with the other posters about Sanjay's starting status. Why would a senior captain that Collins obviously likes lose his starting spot? Truly surprised that people thought that Lump would go from playing the third most most minutes of a returning player the team to playing sparingly.

Sanjay was our second leading rebounder last season and leading returning rebounder, as well as our best defender by a country mile. So we would have given up that for a 38% shooter when we had four other scoring options ahead of him, but few other defense/rebounding options (Falzon didn't defend or rebound particularly well last year that I recall)?

It was ricko's thread - it is currently a few below this one.

My counter would be Falzon also was a starter, so something has to give. And as the talent level improves, no spot should be gifted as legacy. Adding three talented players and returning Law should cause changes to the starting five and the rotation.

Going back a year, before the Law injury, I think most of us expected Mac, Demps, Law, Falzon and Olah to start (I also do not believe Lump is a natural four). Well, Law gets hurt, Lindsey doesn't break through, JvZ can't run much due to injuries - Lump is forced into the starting role. You cannot tell me you would have preferred Lump over Law or highly touted Falzon coming into the season.

Fast forward this year, you have an underwhelming Falzon - but many aren't ready to give up. Maybe rookie nerves, maybe year of growth, whatever - he was highly touted. You have the next highly touted frosh - RI. Then there is Lump - hardest working player, can D up anyone, but not a four, seemingly offensively challenged. If the coach is bringing in legit B1G talent, then you expect them to exceed Lump in performance. Lump sees the floor in spot situations for D or due to foul or injury problems. That would be a program rising fast.

But the injury bug bit hard and Lump and Tap have surprised almost anyone here that chooses to admit the truth, including me. No one could have foreseen their contributions, but they have resurrected what could have been another injury caused lost season.

So, for me, regardless of how well Lindsey, Law or Brown come on, Lump, then Tap will be the MVP candidates if they continue to play well and we enjoy any post season success.

Reasonable analysis. I am generally not high om freshman, so I likely still would have started Lumpkin over Falzon for Falzon's freshman year.

Take another turn on the Walker revival tour:

Gotta love a PG that posts a 1:1 assist to turnover ratio. Or a SG that has the second lowest FG% among schollie players and the lowest 3PG% outside the centers (again schollie players only).

btw, I think Brown will get better. I think he is Demps 2.0. And I think he will be surpassed and not a regular starter at NU. Feel feel to quote me in the future when I am wrong all-around. But for today, lil Walker, Brown was not a solid backup at PG or SG and did not average 16 mpg.
