That’s what this morning’s text from NU Athletics calls it, in encouraging me to renew my season tickets. So I guess it’s really happening. Unless it’s not.

I just received a text from NU in regards to that. They have the schedule now posted on the website. Indiana gone

I received the same text. Sadly, this means that this will be final season as a season ticket holder. I will be gentrified from my really good seats when the new stadium is complete.

Sorry for your loss. Hate to lose you. Hopefully the new amenities will offset the change in your seat location.

Like many on here. I’ll take a wait and see attitude but do expect this could be the last year as a season tix holder as well.

I’m more upset that we dropped Indiana and go to ped state.

“We” didn’t drop anyone.

Hard to comprehend fans bailing on the program when success wans a bit. So many have been clamoring for a new stadium over the years. We're going to have a brand new state-of-the-art facility and folks are considering dropping their season tickets? Mind-boggling to me.

Fickle creatures with high discount rates and a propensity to see doom in change.

My statement has absolutely nothing to do with the state of the football program. The win-loss record is not why I have held season tickets. There are two issues I am considering.

First, the 'survey' that many of us completed had several references to premium seats and donations tied to tickets. The writing is on the wall here. Seats as good as mine will come at a premium in Dyche 2.0. I live in Virginia and usually only get to one game a year so it just isn't worth the additional expense.

Second, my overall interest in college football is fading. I am really, really sad to see the direction in which it is headed. NIL money is the gateway to a semi-pro league that is far removed from what I enjoy about college football. I'm not trying to convert anyone else to my view, that's just the way I feel.

Ditto! And the new transfer rule adds to it.

IMO college football is the most fun sport to watch with an uneven playing field, which is a huge bonus. As a Minnesota sports fan, my first love, the Twins, are perpetually at a huge disadvantage vs the big market teams. This will never change. But it's a pro sport, so our goal is the same: win a championship. This leads to much frustration. The Vikings should hypothetically have an even playing field in the cap-drive NFL... but suffering is synonymous with our franchise, so that hasn't exactly worked out.

Going into a college football season, i don't have to pretend NU is playing the same sport as OSU and can be happy with us achieving our goals against teams like Iowa then tune into the national title games and enjoy the big boys going at each other with no feelings of loss. I love that about the sport.

Yea, the comment chastising you is really off-base and typical of the hairpin trigger reactions/attacks that seem to be in vogue around here. I find myself spending less and less time here because of it.

I didn’t renew my season tickets for basketball following the NCAA tournament year and WR renovation because I was priced out of the seats my family had held for ~20 years. I’ll admit that this was, in part, because I felt like our loyalty as fans and long-time season ticket holders wasn’t being rewarded. We attended just about every game through those 20 years, even when we were downright terrible, and were seemingly rewarded for that loyalty by being told to give a one-time “donation” of several thousand dollars to keep the seats. But we also chose not to renew because it just wasn’t worth it to us any more. The landscape of college sports is changing, and I just didn’t enjoy the games as much as I used to. If that makes me an old man yelling at clouds, so be it, I suppose.

We’ll also be cancelling our football season tickets if a similar pricing structure is used following the Ryan Field renovation. Just not worth it to me or my family, all die-hard NU fans. And it has nothing to do with our performance on the field.

I credit you for continuing to be a season ticket holder at all from that distance. The athletic office eventually stopped even giving me a preseason call for tickets after I finally told them I live 8 hours away but will call them up when I can make it to Chicago (which hasn't been often, unfortunately).

Indy was a GD blast of a lifetime though. Nashville was great too.

As a STH since 1978, I am excited about a new stadium. We need more than just upgrades, a completely new facility is needed. In this ever changing and competitive College Football climate it is a necessity. As this and my BB season tickets are my indulgence, I will continue to be a STH, though with less seats and not any longer on the 48 yard line., at the possible price points being banded about. The group of NU diehards that I sit with, will no longer be STH. They have decided against it and that is their choice. I will miss them, but have forty plus years of memories. I probably will opt out for the 2023 season, being played elsewhere while the new stadium is built, unless it's a requirement to ensure ST for 2024. I just won't attend. All that being said, this old guy is not a fan of the TP, NIL's, and the general direction of the "Minor League" big stage of the present era. Changes are inevitable and needed in fairness to the players, but to me it has taken something away from the Game and Team I love.

Based on this thread, our fan base will get younger real soon. No more yelling to sit down on third down?
Not all of us are as old as you might think. I’m 30, for what it’s worth. And considering that we seem to struggle to get 30k of our own fans to show up to conference games, it might be wise for the athletic department to attempt to retain active STH.

My response has everything to do with an expectation of one season tix going from about 700 per to 2500 potentially based on the ad letter and survey. 5k a year for season tix when I live 2000 miles away

This is a serious matter for NU sports. Right here on this assembly of serious fans, we see many loyal folks ready to bail. To be honest, I see a few scenarios where I might do the same.

Hell, I can invite my family and friends to park in my driveway where I can cook various tailgate delights and maybe watch a game on my giant TV, assuming I even care about the sport anymore.

But don’t regurgitate that tired cliche in my general direction. I won’t be crying out, “Get off my lawn!” After all, that’s where the tent will be.

If we can't beat the big boys, we are not going to be one of the big boys.

Honestly, I can't remember when the prospects for NU football were as bleak as they are today. Perhaps, the Brewfka experiment year. Really, when was the last time we sucked on both offense and defense and really had nothing to hang our hopes on?

And to think, once upon a time, I was chided by the realists as the unbridled optimist.

Fitz has to get fixed in the next 2 years. Last thing we'd want to do is open the rebuilt stadium in 2024 with a dumpster fire level of product on the field.

JON and Bajakian have to show results this year or the staff needs to be overhauled for 2023.

I’m not advocating that people drop season tickets but they should reward support and loyalty more so than $$. The money will come from the insane donors that we have. We’ve alienated our true fans with what we did in Welsh Ryan Arena and we’re rightly fearful that the same will happen with Football.

No argument here. I think that’s a valid point. NU needs to strike a happy medium.

Don't forget they have already screwed over many long time season ticket holder by basically eliminating spots in the west lot.

If only there was not the FB team equivalent of fingernails on chalkboard led by an arrogant HC and at least one incompetent coordinator. Now we should blame the fans for the program‘s failures. How unreasonable to expect at least a watchable team?

Results have consequences. Arrogance has consequences. I’m not surprised, I have predicted this time and again.

I would hope that the WRA issues are a lesson to the AD on how to handle pricing and such with the rebuilt stadium.

That's the one silver lining about what happened with WRA.

They should understand, especially with the pandemic and all and the struggles we've had being able to get fans into seats, that prioritizing our long-term supporters should be the primary goal.

At the very least, I'd tend to be optimistic that we don't see a repeat of what happened with basketball tickets.

And then it will probably look like welsh Ryan. The two seats next to mine are “sold” and have been occupied all of about 3 times in multiple seasons. But hey they still get to cash the checks that somebody is writing.

Depends on next year for me. I view the games more as entertainment but two of the last 3 years it felt more like a slog to attend than a good time. Not good when the on field product is basically unwatchable.

We all hope it magically gets turned around, but realistically what would lead us to think that will actually happen in 2022? Nothing that I see so far. After the down year in 2019, it was still sort of easy to see how things might rapidly change.
