Yes and Yes. This has been brought up many times when NU was scheduling an event or adding to the facilities. Was the stadium in place before they moved into their home? Is it relatively the same structure?
Evanston is the birthplace of some of the greatest whiney, nanny, NIMBY, busybodies in American history, and they seem to work overtime to constantly live up to that legacy. I'm sure Derick Gragg has a lot of Leslie Knope moments in his future.I mean I get that the nearby residents will complain about construction and all but:
1) The capacity is likely going down significantly (probably down at least 3000-5000). That should be a positive for residents nearby in the long term.
2) It's going to be built on the same spot with a similar footprint in terms of height, which means no major net negative effect. It'll have much stronger permanent lighting and multiple screens I guess, but that shouldn't project outwards significantly.
It's going to take a while, but it will get done.
For sure, but somehow we got the Fieldhouse done, which was a much harder project to get off the ground given its location and use of lakefront property.Evanston is the birthplace of some of the greatest whiney, nanny, NIMBY, busybodies in American history, and they seem to work overtime to constantly live up to that legacy. Evanston/Wilmette Residents have been successful in prevention of professional sports and non colligate & HS Events. Small restricted concerts have been permitted under the former city council and former mayor/city manager. Was the stadium in place before they moved into their home? I was born reared and raised in Evanston, and brother do they complain around and about NU. Some of the same people complaining reside on Asbury for example, are the same people who charge for parking on their front lawns for football games.Evanston is the birthplace of some of the greatest whiney, nanny, NIMBY, busybodies in American history, and they seem to work overtime to constantly live up to that legacy.
