So what do you think? Pinstripe? Foster Farms? Quick Lane?

The media have us headed to Pinstripe but that appears to be based on a belief that Pinstripe will pick before Foster Farms rather than that the B1G office will be making the decision for the placement of the three 6 win B1G teams - which reportedly is more likely to be the case this year. There are reasons to believe that NU has lobbied the B1G to have us head to "some place warm," i.e. The Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara, so if that is where the powers to be have lobbied to have us go, that still remains a viable landing spot.

The reasons (as previously stated over on the "Impact of Washington" thread):

I see NU lobbying for Foster Farms for several reasons.

1st, the game time is in the evening and will be a more watched game due to its Prime Time slot. Being on Fox may also be a positive in terms of maximizing eyes.

2nd, a bowl game on the West Coast has a greater potential for widening the exposure of Northwestern nationally than one in Michigan or New York where NU is already better known. In addition to promoting the University itself it also affords the opportunity to increase the NU Football program's exposure to recruits in a sector of the United States where NU likely wants to increase its footprint.

3rd, "Some Place Warm" is a much easier sell for the NU Alumni Association and its Bowl Tours to promote (and from which to profit.)

4th, We were told that the Foster Farms Bowl Committee wanted Northwestern in the past but we were not available by the time they had dibs. Incidental to this is that in the past there were NU connections to one or more influential persons making decisions for the Foster Farms Bowl. (This point may be muted though by the Foster Farms Bowl reportedly being "under new management" this year.)

5th, For the Pinstripe Bowl Maryland may be a more attractive B1G participant due to their proximity.

6th, We have never been to a bowl in Northern California, but have been to Detroit. (Of course that is also true for New York.)

As to who selects (from another prior post on the "Impact of Washington" thread):

GoUPurple over on HailtoPurple.com suggests that the B1G itself may be dictating who goes to Pinstripe/Foster Farms/Quick Lane. As to the placement of B1G teams, the bowls themselves may have less say so this year than in the past.

Elsewhere It has also been noted that the lobbying efforts by the schools are now supposed to be focused on the schools lobbying the B1G offices rather than the bowls directly. Of course that may simply be form over substance.

HailtoPurple:

"However, this season it appears that NU's selection will be based more on the wishes of the conference, rather than straight pecking order. Because of this, there is a greater likelihood that word of the bowl might break sooner than later."

Wondering if NU has more alumni/fans on the east or west coasts.

Foster Farms seems to make the most sense if B1G is "guiding" the decision making. Maryland would bring bigger crowds to NYC as we would to Levi Stadium. Wishful thinking of course. That being said, it is my understanding that all bowl/playoff money is evenly split amongst all B1G schools anyway so it might be more of a bowl pecking order than B1G influence but who knows. We will all know for sure where NU is headed in a few hours thank goodness.
