I’ve been thinking Dan Vitale could have a shot at an NFL tryout. Did he get written out of the game plan to protect him from injury for that reason? Or maybe he’s being punished for not giving enough to NU over the course of his career?

Most likely reason for his being disrespected by the staff, I guess, is the fact that I predicted he’d be the outstanding player of the game.

Can I have some of whatever you have been drinking?

Sure. And I can give you the recipe even. Mix your brand name ground coffee 2:1 (sometimes 3:1) with “Cafe Bustelo Espresso Ground Coffee”. Use your regular coffee maker. Enjoy.

By the way, what point are you trying to make with your comment? I was hoping some NU fan might have some insight about Vitale’s status, or that someone with a better background in football strategy would offer an opinion. But your drink request is certainly a valuable addition; give me a little notice when you are in the neighborhood so I can brew a fresh pot (coffee “pot”, that is, just to be clear).

What struck me is the amount of time NU spent with true 4-wide sets. The most talented players on offense are the top two RBs followed by Vitale, maybe followed by Dickerson (though that's probably a stretch).

No creativity shown with the most versatile player on the roster. I'm disappointed for Dan. He deserved a chance to help NU, and he didn't really get it.

I agree, NUCat320. No way Vitale could have made NU competitive after the Cats let UT get a 2+ TD lead. But, I consider a team’s bowl appearance as kind of a reward for having a good/great year, and a nice thing for fans who are able to make a vacation trip of it. So, if I were the coach (God forbid), I would absolutely give a lot of playing time to the guys who earned it over their careers. And I would give the fans a chance to root for their “favorites”, of which Dan Vitale will always be one of mine.

It’s not like Vitale is ever going to hurt you by lack of effort, or heart, or focus or football IQ. If he were an inconsistent knucklehead or something, okay. But from what I’ve seen he’s not that at all.

Any possible injury for vitale? I'd like to think that's the only reason we'do use him so sparingly.

I was expecting someone to say he was hurt or ill or ... (too many Bloomin’ Onions?).

Fitz would know better than ANYONE what it feels like to watch your teammates from the sidelines losing a big-time bowl game. He had a better view of the action at the Rose Bowl than I did, but we both got in on the same amount of playing time that day in Pasadena. Vitale got a little more action than we did... but not by much.

Yes, you are right I'm very sorry.
A post containing subtle brilliance such as the above deserves so much more.

Only 14 carries for JJ and I believe zero throws to Vitale. It was less than a 2 TD game until under 5 minutes left in the 3rd so I don't buy that we had to abandon our game plan early.

If that isn't enough reason to fire McCall, I don't know what is. His game plan systematically took our two best offensive players out of the game. Sickening. It's almost as if he's a plant from an enemy school sabotaging us.
