My son is a fourth year student in McCormick majoring in Computer Science and Material Science engineering. He volunteers, in his free time, to teach 5th grade students in Skokie topics in science, technology, and mathematics. At the end of class, he asks the students if they have any questions. The questions started off about NU Hoops. The questions next moved into whether or not he eats the French fries at Welsh Ryan. He replied that he does not eat the fries. In addition to admonishing my son for his oversight in not trying the fries, the students asked him if he knew who made these fries because the fries are so delicious. He said he did not. They then wanted him to find out who has the recipe for the fries.
Are these fries as good as these fifth graders say they are? I thought Dippin' Dots was an attraction. Perhaps we can win through fried foods? What is the recipe?

He said they were incredulous when he mentioned that his class size was a bit over 2,000 (the fifth grade at this school is 70+). The were even more astounded when he told them that his class size is relatively small by B1G standards. The 10,000 + at OSU got their attention.

The waffle fries are indeed very good. And best value on the menu at $4.95. Much better than the somethings stale/sometimes cold $5.95 pretzel

Boy, does that bring back memories of when I taught 5th grade. Fantastic story.

My experience with the fries has been they are room temperature to cold and of a lesser quality than the generic frozen-to-oven fries I can get at Jewel. I stopped ordering them, and I'd never recommend them to anyone.

Is there any food @Welsh-Ryan you would recommend?

Usually, I'd rather watch the game than queue up, but sometimes with a 5:30 or 6pm start, trying the stadium food is just an efficient thing to do. My chicken sandwich was pretty good. Italian beef sandwich ok, but italian beef may not be an accurate name for it. Tacos could use some spicy salsa which I'm probably not allowed to bring into the stadium.

What else should I try?

The hot dogs are perfectly adequate re-heated stadium dogs on slightly damp steamered buns. I will often get a couple of those. The tacos I've had were hit or miss, sometimes good sometimes bad. I'd try them again. The chicken has been cold and tasteless the few times I've tried that. The burger I had a couple of times was ok, but the buns were dry, crumbly, and tasteless. The popcorn is adequate as well. It's popcorn after all, hard to ruin that.

I haven't seen an italian beef - I'd try that.

The drink fridges aren't set for cold, so I get a fountain drink with ice.

I haven't tried the booze carts, no comments on those products.

The pretzels are as inconsistent as Robbie Beran's offense.

Maybe those fries are cooked in duck fat? JK. Probably peanut oil. Duck fat fries are amazing, and very good for you!

It was OK for oddball stuff, but Mustards has much better dogs.
