Really poor today guys. Sitting throughout the game, West side on phones, and sections not filled up. Would take a photo but it’s too depressing.

If you can’t get up for this kind of game…

And now leaving with 8 minutes left…

When I heard it was only 85% full before tip… that had me concerned. Weak effort. Zero excuses for the Maryland game with an 8pm tip time. But it is Gen Z and they are unreliable so…

I was really rooting for that eighth missed free throw though. MSU got stuck at seven.

Blaming the students is ridiculous!

This game got away from us very early. The few times we actually did something they were enthusiastic.

You want to blame people, blame the turn coat STH, that sold prime seats to recoup some of their investment. There were way more MSU fans in the upper deck than NU fans, this includes the bottom 5 rows which I know are season ticket holders the entire section behind the MSU bench was MSU fans. There were even people on the courtside folding chairs and prime front row of the Wilson Club had MSU fans. Pathetic.

Sorry, the Wildside in recent years were pit bulls and carried the team by setting the tone for the arena. Even when opposing fans came in droves.

This year, not so much. What changed?

I’m a season ticket holder. Defintley less opposing than in years past. They are always going to be there just given Evanston’s close proximity to a major city and the number of alumni from every school that see this as their only way to see a game. There were also tickets available to buy until just a few days ago, and the area behind the bench is usually available to buy online behind the visitors bench. Unfortunately the game wasn’t close and we home fans didn’t have much to cheer for and their fans were able to get into it. It would be nice if the school tried to cut down on sellers but I believe the school makes additional money for the tickets that are resold on the secondary market and they also prob don’t want to threaten season ticket holders that donate.

Going to games, whether football or basketball when NU gets their ass kicked is an unpleasant experience. Hearing “go white” in your left ear and “go green” in your right ear at a home game flat out sucks. My beef isn’t with the MSU fans that buy the prime seats. It’s with the STH that sells those prime seats. It embarrassing as a fan and today was extra bad.

The students would have got into if there was anything to get excited about, but the game was over 10 minutes into it. Why should they be the only people responsible for bringing energy. Just going to say it, a lot of our STH’s stink!

The fans had nothing to with what happened in that game. Sparty played a great first half and we couldn't throw it in the ocean from three. Maryland won't bring many fans Thursday, if that makes a difference.

Students were a near zero all game.

The team isn't as good and it's a small school. At every other Big Ten school, they only need 5% (or less) of the students to keep the student section filled and energetic for every game. They can have a big drop in overall enthusiasm when their team is mediocre and still have enough diehards to have an intense crowd. We can't, and that'll always be the case. Just a numbers game.

We really do have some absolute clown STHers, many of whom are rich but still have to squeeze every dollar out of their “investment” versus keeping those seats purple. Legit, it would be better to keep those seats vacant!

Let’s see what happens after a few wins, assuming some wins come. The students have been excellent for the last two seasons.

A Sunday at 11 is an eeeeeeaaaaarly game.

No doubt. I will say that winning the last two years has improved the problem although it still exists. I’ve had tickets about 8 years and it used to be worse. Possible solutions-
Offer sth an easy way to donate tickets to some locals.
Crack down on sellers by looking at who is in the seats consistently. Sounds difficult but not really difficult.
Monitor who is selling repeatedly via seatgeek.

I don’t think the school is interested in doing the work.

The season ticket holders that are selling their seats for these prime time games need to be getting called out. Not cool. Also barnheizer who threatened to go to the nba and come up with 4 points tonight not cool either. Refs were fine. The berry tripping call was awful. Also the leach foul early on as well for the plus 1. All things aside if we hit any sorts of shots today we win.

I am not sure about us winning today even if we hit shots. MSU is loaded. Their guards got to the hole easily and they had a big standing under the hoop the entire game. A big that can actually catch the ball and make a move or two. From my vantage point they down shifted as soon as they got up by 20.

If Barney had his normal game, it’s also a very different story. We’ll never know.

If Barney scores his norm season avg they win. Instead he just kept chucking up bricks. Sparty had 0 fast break points against us I think they avg 17 or so.

Given the way the game went I can’t blame the students too much. When we got the lead down to the 12-15 range a couple times they got pretty loud then the team immediately gave Sparty an easy bucket or two, made a dumb turnover, or took a bad shot to spoil any momentum.

Never going to happen. Seatgeek pays either us or the league to have a button on the ticket app. They are a sponsor. We are not going to punish fans who patronize a sponsor.

Yup. Fans selling their tickets to opposing fans makes the school money.

There's that, and also they are my season tickets and I can sell them if I want to. To be clear, I have two season ticket seats and have never sold them.
Sure they are yours and you can sell them. My stance is don’t buy the tickets if you can’t afford them and have to resell. I have had ST’s in football for a dozen years, same seats, and I have no idea who owns the seats on either side of me! They are either empty or occupied by opposing fans. My life is made more miserable because our entitled STH sold the tickets to some drunk with striped overalls on and a corn on the cob hat. They are selling for a profit, just like they are in basketball. These aren’t fans, they are capitalists worrying about themselves.

The MSU basketball game, the Indiana football game were disgusting. My ticket rep sent me a notification today that the renewal deadline is February 3rd. The team isn’t giving me hesitancy, it’s the other STH that do. It’s not people on here selling the prime seats.

The opposing defense plays a large role in how many points our guys score.
While that is true, actually watching the game shows that Brooks took and missed five wide open threes and several step back mid range shots. He did what he is good at, clearing space for a shot. He just missed almost every single one. That wasn't really good defense contesting him and the same goes for Berry's misses. A defender got a finger on one of this threes - the "air" ball - but probably the hardest shot he took against a defender was that layup.

I don't agree with the criticism of the students on Sunday. From my view, the student sections appeared to be fairly full by the start of the game, and I could feel that they were just waiting to explode. The poor play by our team in the first half sucked all the energy out of the arena and there was very little to cheer for - the Cats never really made a run at MSU's lead until very late.

I was slightly disappointed that so many students left late in the second half, but even with the most rabid student fan base, they also depend on having something to cheer for. The Cats never really game them a reason to.

(just my two cents)

The year we gave Magic and Kelser their last loss, I had the radio on with a huge hangover, unable to get out of bed. . . until we led at halftime. Dragged my ass up to McGaw Hall and saw the Cats take down Sparty. Something no other team was able to accomplish the rest of the year!

While I fully understand that 11 was early in '79 and still today, this generation of Wildcat players has earned better support...

They were taken out of the game when we went from one down with about 10 minutes left in the first half to down 19 five minutes later (I could add in the 6 point swing to MSU just before that but that means during that period we were outscored by 25 ) Doesn't give much to cheer about

Something’s different this year. Not sure what.

Berry is not up to what he was during the year both on O and D, Barnhizer is off a bit as well not really hitting his 3s Plus we have had a dreadful schedule so far this year, We have had several last second plays called against us. Guys were set back by injuries and they were out longer than expected so not really up to form

Let's keep in mind that this year's team is missing an all-time NU great player, if not THE greatest player in school history. The offense has certainly not run as seamlessly as it did with Boo running the show, and we can no longer rely on him to either shoot the last shot or get us a good one. Plenty of games left in the year for Ty's and Big Matt's continued recoveries from their surgeries.

Sorry, referring to students. Something’s been off. They’re too polite and quiet.

For one, Northwestern's administration has been weak on this. Last year they issued ridiculous conduct guidelines (midseason) after the relatively tame Terrence Shannon "No means no" chanting. My daughter graduated in June, so I have no info on what efforts were made to lessen the student's collective fervor this year, but it is safe to assume students "have been warned."

There is a vast philosophical difference between "cheer loudly for your team" and "do whatever you can to make the opposing team coaches and fans miserable." I was entrenched in the latter camp throughout my NU days - and well beyond, to be honest.

Of course, it is always the team's performance that drives enthusiasm.
