I came across this article about the engineering involved in converting Wrigley Field from baseball to a football field. There is also a Youube link that visually depicts the conversion. We had a similar field conversion at Petco Park recently for the Holiday Bowl. All that conversion effort and costs to convert went down the drain last year when the bowl game was cancelled at the 11th hour (literally) due to the omicron surge.

Of course the old Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley, now demolished, was designed as a multipurpose stadium from the start to host the Padres and the Chargers. Petco Park is back to hosting large events like concerts and monster truck rallies, and Padres games.
