The organization behind the San Diego Holiday Bowl is suing the PAC12 in an attempt to get money for the losses from cancellation of the 2021 game. UCLA pulled out just hours before the game because a number of their players came down with COVID. Negotiations between the conference and the Holiday Bowl organizers broke down. The organizers have also withheld payment for Oregon’s participation in the 2022 Holiday Bowl game. Just another indicator that the PAC12 is in serious jeopardy. The Holiday Bowl has a great new venue at Petco Park in downtown San Diego. The Padres organization spent a few million to modify the ballpark to accommodate football. (The new San Diego State Snapdragon Stadium in Mission Valley capacity around 35k was considered too small to host the bowl game.) The future of the Holiday Bowl is in doubt with the PAC12 imploding and the friction between the bowl and the conference. The PAC12 has been a key participant in this event for decades. Maybe this is an opportunity for the BigTen to come back in to replace the PAC12 as a conference participant?
