Opposing Team Allocations / UW-NU

Apparently you are not paying attention to those in the stands. Wisconsin as close as they are do not travel well to Evanston. The last attendance figures I saw that validate my assertion is 10/8/23 32131 in attendance. Another game was from the Covid year. No official total. While Wisconsin you would think as being a draw, I wouldn’t bank on it.
They did not play WIS on 10/8/23. The game against WIS was in NOV 11. The game on 10/7/23 was against Howard.

But even if you were talking the 11/11 game, 2023 was a year in which we played in Madison. We did play them Oct 8 2022 in Evanston but remember that that was in the midst of a 1-11 season and second poor season in a row and still recovering from COVID so NU attendance was down and a lot of ST holders did not even show up, Oh, and 2020, they was no attendance because they did not sell ticket and did not allow it. But a more normal example was in 2018 when WIS came to town attendance was 47,330, basically sold out That was a championship season so NU fans were showing up as well. WIS is generally similar to IA in traveling to Evanston

Thanks - a second question then. As not-very-young NU alum I admit to participating in the "you'll work for us someday" chant, back in the days before we started winning. And anecdotally, our grads end up making good money, becoming captains of industry, finding fame in media and entertainment, etc. Have to wonder why - with our rich/famous alumni base we're reliant on one guy. Meanwhile, state schools where the main economy is corn farming beat us at NIL. I cast no aspersions on corn farming, but it isn't known to be lucrative.

So what's the deal with us? Are we bad fans, cheaper than other alums, or both? I for one am cheap so I'm not judging - just wondering why we lag on NIL and presume we can't compete.
I think it’s cultural. At NU “winning” has not really been the priority for decades back to when it was much easier to do. Our NIL effort is raising money by auctioning off the detritus of our old stadium which we tore down to build a smaller - if shinier - one. So we don’t have the tradition of reaching for the stars but rather to revel in our elite excellence and athletic mediocrity.

And we’re bad at corn farming.

Because the bulk of our football/athletic funding comes from one guy, who’s been spending his money on large capital-intensive stadiums.

Pat likes to have his name on buildings. And I get it: the building is there for decades but no one remembers who paid for our starting QB. Junior may have a different philosophy.
OK I get that. On the off chance he is reading this, a suggestion: Putting great players and winning teams in those buildings will ensure more people actually see the name on the building.

Welcome Coach Shane Southwell

I'm pretty confident that tired players get hurt more than fresh players. There's no study to prove that. Just intuition. You've played sports, I'm surprised you think otherwise. When people are tired their bodies don't do what they expect and sometimes they take a bad step or land awkwardly or trip or whatever.

"any good player wants to play as many minutes as they can." Too broad in my opinion. A lot of good players are perfectly willing to rest during blowouts.

As for bench players, just being specific, there's no way, in hindsight, that Clayton should have been getting minutes over Mullins and Smith last year. I'm a big fan of getting the bench guys into games (as long as you win) so that you can see how they do in game situations. You may recall past discussions on this board where I asserted that practice is not the same as games as a response to those who were simply assuming "if somebody isn't getting off the bench, then the guys playing ahead of him are better." We have seen that proven wrong often enough.

If I'm nitpicking, I apologize. There's not much discussion of anything right now. Glad to see Gato re-emerge.
Not sure the Clayton position you take is rock solid but am quite sure it would have had very close to zero impact on our season. Seems to me he played Clayton to give Boo a breather early on in the long season because his ball handling was better than Mullins’ or Smith’s. Later in the season, it did not matter - just let Boo play.

Yeah — and also, if they are bringing in guys that are good at sports and ultimately don’t want to put the work into school to graduate… that’s kind of on them. We are not exactly talking about Duke admitting the Derrick Roses of the world who got a sub-21 ACT three times in a row or whatever it was. If you try, you can graduate. Cs get degrees.

You think sub-21 is the litmus test? Ba hahahahaha.
