Sean Lewis

Sean Lewis has been named as a potential coaching candidate if NU decides to not move forward with Braun after this season. Not only is Lewis a rising star, but he has Chicago roots. Well, in an unexpected move today, Colorado has brought Pat Shurmur in to call plays for the offense, and Lewis will be moving into a to be determined role. Hard to know what that all means, but it's but tough to imagine that Lewis's time in Colorado will last much longer.

FB RECRUITING Iowa week visitors

It's the Wrigley game, so the list is a bit longer than normal. NU will host six players, as of this morning, four of them already committed to the Wildcats. The opportunity to see Wrigley is a big selling point for the Wildcats and they're using this as a chance to reaffirm some of their current commits, try to secure a commitment from one recruit and make an early impact on another.

Recruits:

DE Braxton Strong (Strong is listed at TE but plays both ways and is being recruited at DE)

Explain this:

1. NU is trying to run out the clock at the end of the 1st half. NU runs 2 plays then throws a safe pass but the receiver runs out of bounds when he could not get a 1st down , stopping the clock, saving Iowa their last TO. NU punts but the "gunner" promptly grabs the punt, again stopping the clock instead of letting it roll.

2. NU runs a lot of WR screens and end arounds, all players seem to be run directly to the sideline with no thoughts of cutting back. The sideline is the greatest tackler in the history of football, having never missed a tackle.

3. How many touches does Himon deserve in a game ?

Alternative to Peacock to watch the game

Go here and scroll down, three feeds. I just checked out Nebraska vs MSU and that worked just fine so take it for what it is worth.

Welp

That’s about the game I expected, rock fight where a few plays swing the game. Iowa just had a few more of those (punt block, 4th down stand, pass on the last drive) than us (Henning return, Johnson INT). Certainly didn’t help that we couldn’t get out of our own way on offense in the first half with the various penalties, snapping the ball early on a drive where we had a little momentum, etc.

Team is still clearly playing for Braun, just don’t have the horses to consistently move the ball. He didn’t say as much postgame, but Braun seemed/seems pretty pissed with the offense.

Result clearly wasn’t what we had hoped, but the idea of pairing Braun as DC with an actually effective OC is growing on me. Braun could well stick on as HC, maybe AHC/DC depending on who the HC hire ends up being.
