OK let's have some gallows fun imagining the future Fitz, 5 or 10 years later.
Growing up in a family of Hoosier fans, I watched Bobby Knight get hoisted - he was clearly an abusive guy yelling at the world, accountable to nobody. He had to go, although Hoosier fans at the time didn't agree. It was something to see him come back to Bloomington in 2020.
Fitz is a far, far better man. That's obvious, regardless of whether he had to go or not.

Where might he go and how might he morph?

• Will he take all the flag waving and American fun, and anger metastasise into MAGAism? In this scenario he joins the battle against woke with Ron Desantis. Stranger things have happened. He is respected by our red-state rivals for sure, and I'd bet that a lot of republicans are on the "He shouldn't have been fired" side of the ledger.
• Will he go into media and be a football commentator. This is the easy path - just let the noise abate for a while, then trade off his brand. If his brand is not damaged....
• Another college coaching gig? Again, I would have to imagine red state, but private. Maybe Vanderbilt?
• NFL? Our recent record does him no favours in this regard
• Or, a triumphant return to NU after Shill and Gragg are out? (shouldn't be long).

What do you wise people think?

It’s pretty clear at this point that systematic issues were prevalent in NU athletics. Although a lot of this pre-dates Dr Gragg he still was present during some of it.

Just from an optics standpoint you’d think a new AD is needed.

I fear for the entire university with this guy in charge. I can’t understand what the trustees can be thinking by retaining him. Schill’s defense of Gragg as relatively new, and his reference to Fitz as leader of a small entity, are just two of many red flags in this interview. I don’t know how he can be taken seriously with so many unserious answers that speak loudly with what they don’t say. Credit to the Daily for at least asking the necessary questions. The fact that he doesn’t even know if his AD will be speaking? Just shocking. The more he does and says the worse it gets. I can’t imagine what he’s saying here is true, that he changed his mind by reading a few anecdotes and taking to the aggrieved players. What was even the point of the report?

Finally news not us...

The President clearly doesn’t understand, or care, about the football program or any of the dedicated NU student athletes. But he does care deeply for a good for nothing former student named Carl Richardson. Instead of resolving a potential issue in house with the help of the AD, the two numbskulls terribly mishandled the problem, embarrassed the university on a national level and ruined the football program. Recruiting was hard enough at NU with the stupid admissions issues and now they’ve made recruiting virtually impossible.

Schill’s actions have gutted a BigTen football program, its coaches, players, NU football families, wildcat fans, current recruits and prospective recruits. All because of the complaints of an individual who has no current affiliation with the football program or the university. He could have mitigated things with one press conference and handled the issues in house and out of the media. He’s a complete fool and not a guardian of the university or student athletes. Does the rest of the football team seem like they need protecting from sexual violence in the locker room? NO. If fact, the players say none of this ever happened and some say Richardson is a flat out liar who had an agenda.

The AD is a coward and was no where to be found when his coaches and players needed him most. He is not a leader. He attended the players meeting by Zoom for god sake. Why wouldn’t the AD be in Evanston during the biggest crisis in his department in decades? This is the same guy who tried to screw CC before the big season forced Gragg to give CC an extension. I know for a fact that the coaches never liked Gragg even before this debacle. Everyone loved Mike Polisky who should be the current AD, but they ran him out after 10 days. The administrators at Northwestern University have no spine, zero!

You think Jim Phillips and Morty Shapiro would’ve handled the matter like these fools? The answer is: No. Ultimately it’s up to the Board of Trustees to clean out Schill and Gragg and it should happen soon! Hopefully Pat Ryan steps into the picture.

Friends, in the day of “Super conferences”, NU’s existence in the BigTen just got shorter. With Schill and Greg at the helm the cats will be in the ivy league very soon.

The Athletic's Austin Mock just published his model's prediction for the Big Ten # of wins. NU was at 4.5 tied with Rutgers at 11th and above MSU and Indiana. Since I am new to the Athletic I don't know how accurate his model has been in the past but fear recent events may have made earlier assumptions invalid.
Still there may be some hope.
