Coach Braun will not name a QB for Miami of Ohio until game day. I know the actual first play is the kick-off. The Cam Porter choice is actually the first offensive play.

Our schedule is brutal

No.

Yes, Michigan and OSU are tough draws, but this schedule is not nearly as bad as some have argued.

Washington lost a lot talent this season, including a first round QB. They also lost their head coach. They should be tough, but it's not a guaranteed loss.

Wisconsin, Iowa, Maryland, Indiana, Purdue all have significant warts (listen to the WLP podcast if you havent). Illinois lost quite a bit of talent, but I think they will be tough against us.

Duke lost a lot of talent to the draft. They have had our number, but I think this year can be different.

I talked to cornerback Theran Johnson about his role, his mentality and his goals after transfers and injury have made him the team's anchor on the outside.

Adam Smith: Supply And Demand

From and Athletic article by Mandel:

You get to pick one Northwestern home game. Are you going to the temporary on-campus stadium or Wrigley? — Orange dot Steve

Oh, definitely Northwestern Medicine Field. I’d want to be part of the ultra-exclusive club that gets one of those 15,000 seats. The cheapest ticket on StubHub for the Wildcats’ Oct. 19 Wisconsin game is currently $188 — $12 more than it costs to get into the Badgers’home game against Alabama.

The school should use this in every Economics 101 course on supply and demand.

WLP 2024 Northwestern Preview

Hey Gang!

Sorry, we've been delinquent getting posts about the last handful of Summer Previews up here. But they're all there if you want to check any of them out!

More importantly: Here's The Big Daddy: Our 2024 NU Preview.

Our questions re: QB and Corner are no doubt the same as yours.

But this team looks to have AWESOME coaching, a ton of depth on DLine, the best Linebacker in the Big Ten, and promising talents ready to emerge everywhere (remember last year's coverage units?!) We've all heard about Lujan's acumen for scheme, but when you really dig in--AND WE DID--it looks truly elite. If the offensive line comes together, Mike Wright(we assume--they'll both play at some point regardless) is going to be given every opportunity to succeed, right off the bat.

Could we theoretically only win 3 games on this schedule? Well, yeah...
CAN we beat 10 teams on this schedule? YES. 100%.
BUCKLE UP. 2024 IS GONNA BE A RIDE.

NOTE: This was recorded when we knew Adeyi was hurt, but before we got the word that he's probably done for the year.

Photos of the Temporary Football Stadium

Now that commencement is in the rear view mirror I figured construction of the temporary football stadium would be getting started. Yesterday I took a spin by the Lakefill to check out out the site. They've already made a noticeable amount of progress. The goalposts have already been installed. The South stands are going up (first image). The existing West side (third image) is being at least somewhat dismantled (or reconfigured?). There's nothing is going on with the North stands yet. And on the East side (second image) there are some temporary sections of bleachers lining the sideline. I have to assume the finished East side will be nicer than this, but based on how they described it on that Zoom call it does make me wonder how much nicer it's going to get.

Big Ten Season Tie Breaking Rules

With the new 18 team conference there is a very good chance for a few teams to be tied for first place at the end of the season.

Here are the rules if that happens.

The list of tiebreaking criteria in order, according to the Big Ten, is:
  1. Head-to-head results during the regular season
  2. Record against all common conference opponents
  3. Record against mutual conference opponents with best record
  4. Best Big Ten winning percentage of conference opponents
  5. Highest ranking by SportSource Analytics after the regular season
  6. Random draw of tied teams

Best seats in the house?

I’m going to the game on Saturday and curious about the board’s opinion on the best place to sit.

50 yard line is almost always awesome but I’m concerned that 8-10 rows up on the west sideline stands won’t be enough up to get a good view of the game (especially since it’s my kid’s first game).

Am I better off being 15-20 rows up in the south end zone?
